Today is the day!
Anybody really know what he has in mind?

Rumor is that the Cheeto Genius still doesn't know exactly what he is going to announce later today. He and his best-est staff were still working on it yesterday and this morning.
That is how well planned this is.

Of course, in typical Trump well thought out style, what he is doing is by EO and not by Congressional legislation. So, the next person in office can easily cancel all of the EOs lazy assed Trump signed, unless Trump flip flops on it again and cancels them himself.

And even if the tariffs stick around Trump will be dead before they have the full effect I'm guessing he is wanting...by the way, he hasn't revealed exactly what his end goal is.
I'm not sure he knows himself...He just like the word tariff.

Yep - it is like some dystopian sci fi premise.
But in real life.

The creators of project 2025 couldn't have found a better puppet than Trump.

That was the "dumbest and most economically illiterate speech I have ever heard'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avEtMcELaPU

From the Netherlands: this is Brexit all over again. Brexit did damage, this does damage, we'll survive this, too, but it's a nightmare. Everything we've built up over decades is being wrecked by friggin' idiots.
Perhaps it's time to attack the US patent system in retaliation. Without that system, we can limit the damage somewhat by lowering costs of products. I think there's no need to play by US rules and enrich them if they break every rule in the book. Who knows, we might get out of this with a healthier, more competitive economy.

A slumping economy means less tax revenue.

A slumping economy means less corporate profits.

How are corporations supposed to invest in new factories when their bottom line is stunned by Trump's recession?

Another question, what is the metric used to measure if this is a success or not? At what point are the tariffs pulled? Recession? Great Recession 2.0? Depression?

Trump imposed tariffs or increased tariffs on more than 180 countries yesterday.

Except for one...Russia.

Go figure.

>>But I've asked multiple corporate executives in recent weeks whether companies are likely to start investing in manufacturing in the United States in response to Trump's policies, and the message has basically been: That's an unanswerable question right now. Because making those decisions requires understanding the relative costs of doing it versus not doing it, and Trump is far too unpredictable to allow for that kind of calculation.<<

Don't forget they've killed international tourism to the US and created a labor shortage problem also.
There'll be another explosion of the deficit and quantitative easing to bail out farms, businesses, and the banks.

Trump's thoughtful tariff execution included a 29% tariff on the McDonald Islands....whose main inhabitants are penguins.

Nobody knows where the amateurs at TrumpWorld got their info, or how they derived the percentages for the 180+ countries affected.

>>>>>
"In 2023, Norfolk Island exported US$655,000 (A$1.04m) worth of goods to the US, with its main export being US$413,000 (A$658,000) worth of leather footwear, according to Observatory of Economic Complexity data.

But George Plant, the administrator of Norfolk Island, disputed the data. He told the Guardian: "There are no known exports from Norfolk Island to the United States and no tariffs or known non-tariff trade barriers on goods coming to Norfolk Island."
>>>>>

Typical of Trump, they did lazy and sloppy work.
But real work requires real work, and Trump doesn't want to have anything to do with that...he just wants to wave his hand.
We have an orange toddler at the switch.
Sad.

(Bloomberg) - Roughly $2.5 trillion was erased from the S&P 500 Index on Thursday amid worries that President Donald Trump's sweeping new round of tariffs could plunge the economy into a recession.

Meh, Trumpatsy is a shill.
whatever.

Anyway, Jim Cramer was for the tariffs in principle and backed Trump...but not now that trump revealed his plan and experiencing today's market he has done a 180.
He is calling the Trump team amateur bush leaguers.

It is an interesting interview.

I too was against free trade agreements, because they allowed US industries to skirt labor and environmental regulations to exploit countries without protections at the expense of American workers. We could've used our post WWII economic might to apply diplomatic and economic pressure on our trading partners to level the playing field by encouraging them to adopt labor and environmental standards.

But here we are trying to fix a problem we created with more war tactics.

I was hoping to see some of these countries responding with attempts at negotiating a reduction in their own tariffs, because a return of US manufacturing seems unlikely. But news of China's response this morning is bleak, retaliatory tariffs on US exports and even considering full sanctioning of 11 US companies, some that are entirely dependent on China

But hey, Dementia Donnie did enact tariffs on an island with penguins, and ZERO humans!

Trump's trade war targets an island full of penguins, but Russia faces no new tariffs

Aside from climate change and pollution, penguins are now facing one more threat from humanity: President Donald Trump's tariffs.

Trump on Wednesday announced expansive tariffs on more than 180 countries and regions to retaliate against what he characterized as unfair trade practices by other countries.

While Vladimir Putin's Russia was left out of the long list, Trump slapped 10% tariffs on Heard Island and McDonald Islands, two mostly barren, tiny outposts largely populated by penguins.

The island group is located in the middle of the Antarctic Ocean and remains among the world's most remote places where no humans live. Administered by the Australian government as an external territory, the island group covers 140 square miles, is about 2,400 miles southwest of mainland Australia, and requires a two-week sail for a visit.

The real reason DonOld is enacting the tarrifs:

Blame it on the fentanyl!

Donald Trump just made the rationale for his tariff "Liberation Day" crystal clear: revenge.

In a post on Truth Social late Tuesday, the president said that the tariffs were his administration's "fight" against Democrats' "wild and flagrant push to not penalize Canada for the sale, into our Country, of large amounts of Fentanyl, by Tariffing the value of this horrible and deadly drug in order to make it more costly to distribute and buy."

Approximately 0.2 percent of American fentanyl seizures occur at the Canadian border, according to federal statistics.

Tim Apple made a deal with Trump and got a break on the tariffs the last time around, then moved I-Phone production to India. India got one of the higher tariffs from a trump tantrum.

The orange jesus seems to be forgetting the primary rule of marketing.
Supply and demand.
They wouldn't supply it if there wasn't a demand.
We have a huge drug problem in this country and we need to work with the addicted to get them off drugs.
If they don't get fentanyl they will turn to something else like sniffing sharpies.

Oh, and punishing Canada for the insignificant amount of fentanyl that crossed their boarder is just ludicrous. Trump is just trying to rationalize and give soundbites to the cult.
Sad he can't address the real problem openly, which is that we have a drug problem.
Maybe it is too close to home?

Peter Navarro, Trump's main Economic advisor, is basically a fraud.
He was picked to be the advisor after Jared went through Amazon books and picked one by Navarro because they liked the title.
Because Navarro and Trump like tariffs and are willing to ruin the economy over them is one of the main reasons we got here.

More astonishingly lazy and incompetent Trump shit coming to light.

>>>>>>>>>>
Donald Trump's tariff policy, destabilizing global markets, was based on advice from a fictional economist invented by Trump adviser Peter Navarro. This absurd but dangerous origin story underscores the incompetence and recklessness of Trump's administration and exposes the fragility and speculative nature of the global economic system it disrupted.

Key Bullet Points:
- Jared Kushner reportedly chose Trump's economic adviser by browsing Amazon book titles, landing on Death by China by Peter Navarro.
- Navarro, a key proponent of tariffs, repeatedly cited a fictional economist named "Ron Vara" to back his ideas.
- Vara was later revealed to be an anagram of Navarro's own name, with no real academic or professional existence.
- These baseless policies led to trillions in market losses, triggering fears of a global economic crisis.

I just checked some investments stuff including a 401k and the note below popped up first as a warning so people don't have a heart attack.
And yeah, they were down...a lot.
You all know I am no Trump fan, but I thought he would keep the markets together and wasn't really afraid of major market loses.

Boy, i was wrong.
It might take years to recover.

I can ride this out, but damn...
I really do feel for people who needed their money in this time frame and need to pull it out to buy a house, or for pay for college for their kids, or whatever.

Important information regarding market volatility
In light of recent market volatility, remember that your retirement account is intended for long-term investment. Attempts to time the market are rarely successful. One way to manage risk over time is to ensure you have a diversified portfolio that is rebalanced through up-and-down markets. Keep your individual needs, goals and time horizon in mind and consult with your financial professional if needed. It is important to note diversification and rebalancing do not ensure a profit and do not protect against loss in declining markets.

White House Official Sums Up Trump's Tariffs With Foul-Mouthed Analysis: Report

Ben Blanchet
Fri, April 4, 2025 at 8:26 PM EDT1 min read

A White House official offered an expletive-laden take to The Washington Post on Friday while describing the thinking behind President Donald Trump's recent round of tariffs.

"He's at the peak of just not giving a fuck anymore," said the official in a report detailing the lead-up to Trump's "liberation day" reveal.

In the days since Trump announced his so-called reciprocal tariffs on foreign countries, a move that saw him fulfilling a key campaign pledge, the president has been hit with backlash across the political spectrum while stocks tumble on Wall Street.

His formula for imposing tariffs has caused experts to scratch their heads, as well. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a conservative economist at American Action Forum, told The Post that the Trump administration has "an indefensible foundation to an indefensible policy."

But the "bad news stories" tied to the tariffs haven't fazed the president, according to the White House official.

?[Trump] doesn't give a fuck. He's going to do what he's going to do. He's going to do what he promised to do on the campaign trail," the official told The Post.

Trump once warned that if Kamala Harris was elected president, America would experience another crash like the Great Depression. "We are going to have a crash and we're going to have a crash like a 1929 crash if she gets in," Trump said on the campaign trail in August.

Obviously that was just more Trump projection.

Got this in an email today.
FYI - Christopher Ward watches are English made watches that use quality Swiss movements.
They are a high bang for the buck small watch maker that is well respected and popular in the USA among watch nerds.
Basically this has increased the watches hundreds to thousands of dollars each.

>>>>>>>>>
Dear American friend,
With the recent application of a total of 31% tariffs on Swiss watch imports into your country - 10% has already been applied, the balance of 21% is planned to be effective from Wednesday 9th April - the ultimate price you pay for your Christopher Ward watch will increase.
As a relatively small, independent watch brand we can't afford to absorb this increase ourselves and, therefore, have no alternative but to pass the tariff costs onto our American customers.

Apparently the equation they used is incorrect in many ways.

For a plan as important as this it shows how remarkable amateurish, arrogant, and lazy Trump and company are...and they made everybody pay the price for their stupidity.
Are these guys graduates of Trump University????

This is just one vid by credible PhDs and mathematicians.
Google for yourself

I think you are right.

When some of these drugs like ozempic that is made mostly in Europe start costing more than their already expensive price...well that is going to hit all those red state trump voters hard and they are going to remember that.

Last night convict Trump said this:
Drug imports evaded the first round of tariffs that Trump imposed on countries around the world, but the president said they will not be spared."We're going to be announcing very shortly a major tariff on pharmaceuticals," he said at a dinner of the National Republican Congressional Committee. "And when they hear that, they will leave China. They will leave other places because they have to sell - most of their product is sold here and they're going to be opening up their plants all over the place."

It is pretty obvious he is just winging it and doesn't have a real plan.

Another clusterfk of a day in the markets.

Thanks to Convict Trump many people are being liberated from their savings, retirement money, and 401ks due to Trump's Loser Day market crashes. Meanwhile the cost of everyday items is going up....

Why is it that everything Trump does seems to be ill planned chaos and major clusterfk?

The markets are showing their support for Trump's economic plans this morning...by going down again.

But the good new is that the price of gold is going up...which typically means the economy is going to shit.

This is the one area I figured Trump would do OK and I wasn't horribly worried about the markets.
I was way wrong.
i under estimated Trump's ability to fk things up.
ETTD.

It will all work itself out, all without Trump, he will take credit for all of it, none of the blame and his weathergirls on Fox will explain that in hindsight, Trump was playing 3D chess and all that losing was just the lead up to all this winning.

He ain''t playing 3d chess...he can't even spell 3d chess...he is winging it and his concept of a plan is that he HOPES the tariffs work.
They are not.

It would be better if Trump just went golfing every day for the rest of his presidency...

Not so sure this is going to work itself out anytime soon.

Trump has already caused massive damage and a shift in world attitude towards trade w America and the stability of the dollar.

He would need to publicly abandon his tariff fantasies and go on an international apology tour to even begin repairing the hole he put in the boat.

None of that will be happening, and now he's attacking Powell.

so, Doonzo Dumbass is just gonna keep digging himself deeper into a hole, bringing America with him. Protect yourself.
