we fled to Grainsville this am (left 5am) back roads ok, but I-75 and turnpike was a parking lot. Took 5 hours and I think it's normally 3 1/2. Saw fuel truck police escort. Plenty of gas stations open , some long lines, some open pumps. Yeah it looks like we zigged right into the path, but I'm betting that time, distance and land will help, plus this house we are staying is in rock solid, high and dry and underground utilties, so hopefully we will not loose power too long. Stay safe every one, do what's right for your family, not your ego. Sheltering in place may be the safest place if you have the right location and structure. Not sure I would stay beachside unless it was in a 2nd story concrete structure. |

What is the argument that this storm surge will be worse than Matthew?
I've been hearing it, but nobody is explaining why - other than the east coast now being in "the NE quad" - but Matt was literally on the coast and the entire NE quad was pushing water towards the beach and my house in North Jax beach never got close to flooding. Maybe they planned it well, or maybe we got lucky?
This mornings Jax evac orders are confusing with the westward track. |

Storm surge goes where the storm goes, just like fetch and our swells, so in this case the greatest energy should be going to the north, parallel to our coast. I'm guesssing this storm will be a non issue by the time it reaches Brevard County. |

Are they keeping the bridges open Sat? Probably not evacuating until Sat afternoon from Satellite and was wondering if they'll let me over to the mainland. ------------------------- Where is Playalinda? |

The Florida gulf coast barely had TS winds during Matthew, let's hope we get that break this time.
I'm headed to Orlando to help the elderly and infirm, if it wasn't for that I would be staying in Cocoa Beach. I looks like I will be taking a road trip for more inclement weather. ------------------------- I was right. |

Matthew had transitioned from a weak Cat 4 to a strong Cat 3 as he passed Brevard county. ------------------------- Waiting for waves is ok......most people spend their lives waiting for nothing. |
