GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- In OTHER news, after over 6 months of recruiting, Spurrier finally found around 200 players to staff his newly opened 17,000 sq. ft. restaurant.

Loved Spurrier (still do), but, I knew it would be way more than I would ever pay. His ego would not allow low or moderate prices. I'm not paying $34 for a 6 oz filet. Mama Lo's is more my style - hand written menus (daily) on notebook paper, tiled with linoleum samples and a neon sign that said "Lo's Chittlins". When I left a qtr of a fried chicken, 3 sides and cornbread was $2.75. You never knew who would sit next to you. Might be a professor or other professional (usually black), a cop (also usually black), a street person (invariably white) or a student on a tight budget (like me). Mama Lo and her kids fed us all. She was an institution and a sweet lady.

StirFly - I was there from 73 to 79. Ate with the Krishnas many times and even worked in their gardens a few times. Food was always healthy, but, pretty bland. I usually brought a few packets of Mickey D's pepper to spice it up. My (now) wife worked at Affinity Again (a somewhat hippy-ish clothing shop on University near Snuffy's) and Mama Lo would occasionally call to ask if they had anything in her size in red. If so, she sent her daughter over to pick it up. She was a class act working her (big) pots on those two old stoves, dressed nicely (usually in red) in her house slippers. When I started, the fried chicken was $1.35 and rose to $2.75 by the time I left. Went in there tripping one time and the floor tiled in tile samples (no two alike) mesmerized me. Hilarious.

Me too. The appearance of any objectivity is too much effort to maintain. Go Gators. That being said, it won't be easy this year.

Legendary college football coach Steve Spurrier made a bold prediction, saying that he believes the Florida Gators are going to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in this year's Week 3 matchup in Gainesville. Spurrier coached the Gators for 12 seasons from 1990-2001, compiling a record of 122-27-1 over that span.
Last season, Alabama beat Florida by a score of 52-46, extending their win streak over the Gators to seven games. The last time Florida beat the Crimson Tide was a 31-20 victory in 2008. Spurrier's comments came on 1010XL's Gators Roundtable, which drops on Friday. |

Orr is struggling hard to say relevant.

Whoa, wait just a darned minute. The Gators got 17 against USC. They suck but no blanks (yet)! (Although they certainly seem to be shooting blanks.)

I hope the gators can become bowl eligible so this can happen on link below! UCF sucks also. So many injuries and we lost another great LB last game. Even Coach Malzhan got hurt and is on crutches. Injury bug has hit UCF bad. Can't wait until next year! but, possibly getting lined up with the gators in a bowl game would be interesting.
Sitting at 5-5, UF needs to at least split its final games at Missouri and at home against Florida State to reach bowl eligibility, and that is far from a sure thing. Still, ESPN's Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura both give the Gators the benefit of the doubt and expect them to go bowling, albeit in low-profile games. Schlabach's prediction is definitely more intriguing, as he pairs Florida with UCF in the Birmingham Bowl. Does Florida make the cut in ESPN's bowl projections? https://finance.yahoo.com/news...pn-bowl-171027551.html |

I wish we could put a stop to these sympathy bowls and participation trophies. It would have been cool to see UCF vs UF a few seasons ago, but I don't want to see either in the Don't Care Bowl this year. UCF's drubbing by BYU last year served no purpose, other than financial. Legit on the surface, but ya gotta draw the line somewhere.

An extra two weeks of practice for the bowl would do both teams favors. UCF has a lot of young players getting playing time due to 8 or 9 starters out for season.
I have not followed the gators situation all that much, but they just fired some asst coaches. They prob need practice as well. ![]() Hate when our teams lose. But, its just entertainment. I'd watch UCF vs Gators bowl game. You wouldn't since. you don't care? ![]() Edited: 11/16/2021 at 11:44 AM by Central Floridave |
