GIS novice here...
I'm confused how are you extracting by mask using point data?
Don't you need a shape or polygon of some sort?

I've managed to get through this part and bulling my way through the rest.

The points were sample locations on lake O (which was my shape file). the images were satellite tif's that I needed to isolate the Lake O area, so that I could extract surface reflectance (of three bands) in order to extrapolate Chlorophyll-a data. My final test will be to see how well I did versus ground data.

It's taken me two straight days of cursing and throwing tantrums, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel....
