Robert Woyshner died suddenly Mon day, May 12, 2008, while executing his training as an ocean rescue lifeguard for Indian River County. Bob, affectionately known to many as "Bear" and"Bob-o". Bob has been an ocean rescue life guard for more than 35 years serving New Jersey, South Florida, and most recently in Indian River County, FL. A memorable "paddle out" service, open (at the request of his wife, Sue) to his countless lifeguard comrades and his expanse of friends, will be conducted on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. from Golden Sands Beach, Indian River County, FL where Bob had been life-guarding since October, 1994. This will be our way of saying, "Aloha, Bob - we love you."

Man, I'm so sorry to hear of this. Always dug Bob. I met him through Mike and Seth Novak when he was their brother-in-law. Caught a couple of insane days at Monster Hole with him. He was always in great shape, and just one funny dude. Had some good dinners at Dos Amigos and some really good laughs. The guy had some great stories. RIP Bob

Bob is a really nice person, a good artist and surfer. He was part of our family for a while and we were lucky to have known him. I loved talking with him about art and surfing. He would get me fired up and tell me not to sellout and follow someone elses path.
He also would have cool stories about surfing Puerto Escondido, Jersey, etc. I didnt get to surf with him that much but he always seemed stoked if it had some push to it. Aloha Bob & Hare Krishna Edited: 05/24/2008 at 02:06 PM by zen108 |

I'm pretty sure you're going to have to postpone it with all the rain.... Let us know when it will be rescheduled, please.

The weather cleared and we had the paddleout. The IRC Honor Guard was there and played Amazing Grace on bagpipes. It was a very good send off for "Bear"!! |

Very cool. I heard from a few who went to it that it was a great paddleout. If I weren't in San Diego I would have joined them. Adios Bob.

On the drive down, at about inlet, it was raining so hard you couldnt really see the road. We were thinking its a rain out but when we pulled in the parking lot the CCR song "Who'll stop the rain" came on the radio and it stopped raining and they had a very nice ceremony.
It was nice to see the camaraderie of the lifeguards and the friends and family. The bagpipes were moving. Hopefully we appreciate what limited time we have here. -Hare Krishna |

Nice one Seth. Life certainly is short and we've got to try to enjoy it as much as we can. Bob left a lasting impression on me and we can only hope that we leave the world with good memories that he left us.
