I haven't been much south of the pineda yet, but yeah...super sad about the beating our beaches took from this relatively minor storm.

Pile sand back on it, get a few more years. With sea level continuing to rise, it's inevitable, but delayable. Eventually, beach renourishment will not be enough and rules will change to allow armoring, then the complection of the beach and break will really change. How long? Seems like we're missing our window of opportunity to forestall more land ice melt so perhaps sooner rather than later. Jeckyll Island anyone? https://thebrunswicknews.com/n...b17b-92aeac4ae1cb.html

Here are a couple of articles I wrote for FL Today, almost ten years ago...

And, just for reference, , , , , sea level has risen over 400 feet since the end of the last ice age and there is only a little bit more to go, , , , , , , , ,

I like the mention of the storms strength, I hadn't even thought of that. Just imagine if it was a three or worse. The condos would be in the ocean right now.
We have lost this battle. I wonder when the higher-ups will realize this. ------------------------- I was right. |

Think that Nicole's massive size & onshore wind field size/width was a major factor..
Water had effectively nowhere to go but up.. Also storm speed parallel to the shore..
If the field was not as wide, the water could have moved elsewhere along the beach.. Significant surges typically happen in bays and other areas where the water cant escape by moving laterally longshore drift..

Actually, we elect the higher-ups, and we keep choosing the same people over and over. That makes it our fault.

That makes it our fault. ur naive to think a) elected officials actually care about their constituents and b) that your votes in some way effect anything You are right in a manner of speaking, I didn't vote for the people who currently run our area. Posey is as useless as an umbrella in a Cat 4, as are the rest. ------------------------- I was right. |

Vero South Beach/Riomar Cove is rebuilding with the usual new high tide sandbar, overtopped by today's active surf near high tide with a stream running back od sandbar to a couple of outlets to the ocean. The outflow wasn't particularly powerful.

Keep in mind, I am referring to the 70's so anything goes..... Growing up in Satellite Beach, I could swear that the Paradise Beach Club condo (RC's) seawall was originally back from the dune line. Somehow I have a memory of sitting on the concrete top and having a lawn guy mowing the grass seaward of me. Does anyone else remembers this? Like I said, it was the 70's, so be kind.

Waiting to see what the upcoming northeasters do washing out the sand under the pilecaps exposing even more of the piles at RC's..
Remember taking pic's good sized swell March(?) a few years ago when they were frantically dumping truckloads of sand and dozers were pushing it up against the dunes.. Most of it was gone days later - as usual..

Yes, Pet den seawall was the same, grass on the east side. Edited: 11/28/2022 at 09:03 AM by chopola |

I would think that's the road to the north, 8 or 9?, where the dunes were already low but I don't see the tracking dome in the background. Dunno.
Regardless, look at the spray coming off that beach break tube. Bone crusher.
