Doubt NYC will lose too much population. The fleeing productive people will largely be replaced by bums and criminals wanting to cash in on the free stuff and to engage in the penalty-free crime. Most Americans are not progs and take no satisfaction in the misery of fellow Americans. They want to stop him to prevent more suffering.
