The Hill

Trump planning military parade through DC for 79th birthday

Ellen Mitchell
Mon, April 7, 2025 at 12:52 PM EDT2 min read

The Trump administration is planning a June 14 military parade through the streets of Washington, D.C., to mark the president's 79th birthday.

It will also mark the Army's 250th anniversary. A senior administration official confirmed the plans to NewsNation, The Hill's sister network.

Washington City Paper first reported on the parade, noting it will stretch almost 4 miles from the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., to the White House.

An Army official confirmed the parade's length to The Hill, and said that "there are plans for a parade that will involve the Army," adding that nothing is yet solidified.

The official noted that the Army had planned to celebrate its 250th anniversary with a "robust capability increase in what you would see in previous years." Planning began last year and the event has since expanded, with the number of units participating now increased.

The official also said Washington's local government has been involved in the planning, with engineers in both the Army and city doing "route reconnaissance."

"The Army is very excited to celebrate its 250th anniversary with the entire county. Our intention is for Americans to be proud of their Army and also proud of their nation. It's too early to say yet whether or not we're having a parade but we're working with the White House as well as several government agencies to make the celebration a national level event," Army spokesperson Col. Dave Butler told The Hill.

President Trump in his first term in 2018 ordered the Pentagon to plan a large military parade after he visited Paris and was inspired by a French Bastille Day event.

"We're going to have to try to top it," he reportedly told French President Emmanuel Macron.

But that event, set for Nov. 10, was canceled after defense officials quoted the price tag at $92 million and were slow to plan it, citing more pressing issues. The event also was heavily criticized both publicly and in private within the administration.

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) at the time called the military parade plans a "fantastic waste of money to amuse the president."

And Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a staunch Trump backer, warned against treating the parade as a "Soviet-style" display of military might.

Washington officials also complained that heavy military equipment such as tanks would damage the city's roads and cost the city millions of dollars for public safety.

The Defense Department could use its training budget to pay for flyovers and use vehicles from nearby bases, but the event would also require outside costs such as pay for Secret Service and police, and the renting and construction of stands and barriers.

The timeline for planning is also tight, given that June 14, Trump's birthday, is less than 10 weeks away.

An odd parade route. The Arlington Memorial Bridge was last refurbished in 2020. I doubt that it's suited for tanks. Spectator space from the Pentagon to the bridge seems limited. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlington_Memorial_Bridge

This is just like every other American President's birthday. I know how Trump loves the military even though his Vietnam was avoiding STD's as a promiscuous product of lazy money in NYC during the pre aids era.

I guess this is the part where the president rides in the parade firing off into the air flanked by whores and morons.

Sounds exactly like Donzo lol.

But I doubt we'll ever see him fire a gun- he'd flinch like a pussy when he hears the big gun-go-boom

I mean, did you see him cower from that eagle?

Congrats to the Army for celebrating their 250th.
Their original plan was for something much more modest, but then Trump wanted a parade for his birthday....

Attendance was meh, not great.
The troops had shitty accommodations and only had one cooked meal a day, the other two meals were MREs.

So we spent >$40 million, plus additional millions to repair damaged roads for very little benefit.
But yeah, Trump and DOGE want to cut millions in benefits services for our veterans.

The WH ensured the park service would not count attendance.
All the photos and show the crowd size to be underwhelming and lacking enthusiasm.
They want to be able to sharpie in the number after the fact to please Trump.

There are lots of vids showing folks like Rubio, McMahon, and the rest of his ass kissers yawning and fidgeting in boredom.
There is even video showing Trump nodding off at his own parade.

Like everything Trump does it was all bluster with little substance.

People are saying Trump isn't happy that there were other more newsworthy headlines that buried his birthday parade...things like Israel -Iran war and the assassination of lawmakers in Minnesota and the manhunt to capture those responsible.

If Trump really wanted to honor the military, he wouldn't:
- Cut 80k people from the VA
- Freeze $2 billion in contracts
- Let attack plans leak on Signal

People are rising up across the US to say boldly: fuck off, eat shit and die.

The bone spur draft dodging 79 year old man got his birthday present. It wasn't much of a turnout. Meanwhile, the rest of the crowd turned out in droves for the no long day. All of his headlines stolen by his buddy Bibi's war and and big beautiful debt increase.

Fox was so desperate to fill the air they put on a drunk lady...and it wasn't judge Boxwine.
It was Rebekah Koffler.
It was hilarious.
The Fox News hosts were like...WTF? and tried to bum rush her off the show.

Speaking of drunks, Has kegsbreath been seen drinking?
He looked like he could use one at the parade.
They all looked like bored children in detention.

Sparse Attendance, Confusion and Disorganization: Dismal Scenes From Trump's Military Parade

"I just got back from the Trump parade and I have to say it was legitimately the worst executed mass attendance event I've ever seen

One overarching thought: how do you spend $80 million and fumble the basics?"

Trump Lackey Torn Apart for Wild Claim of Giant Parade Crowd

President Donald Trump's director of communications has prompted ridicule with spurious claims over the size of the crowd at a Washington, D.C. military parade.

"Amazing. Despite the threat of rain, over 250,000 patriots showed up to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the @USArmy," Steven Cheung posted to X on Saturday night. "God Bless the USA!"

MSNBC was quick to pour water on the claim.

"That's just not accurate, that's not even close to accurate," reporter Vaughn Hillyard, who was present at the event, told hosts of MSNBC's The Weekend on Sunday

"Just the eye of any individual who is here on the ground or looking at images or video knows that there were not 250,000 people, but that can be the White House's position here," he added.

Users on X eviscerated Cheung in the comments section and in reposts of his original claim. Many of them compared him to former Trump Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who was called out in 2017 for grossly inflating the number of people who'd attended the president's first inauguration.

"Steven Cheung in his 'Sean Spicer' moment declared FALSELY 250K people attended Trump's vanity parade yesterday!!" one user put it.

"Steven Cheung has no concept of the principles of empirical induction predicated from proven observation," another chimed in. "Steven Cheung has no ability to use inference from established facticity. Steven Cheung is a deluded fantasist with no concept of actual reality."

A third person simply wrote: "Trump's nutsackhead is lying again."

I read that the lack of dress uniforms, the lack of in step marching, was a planned, subtle, snub to the draft dodger in chief. If true, kudos to the architects.
