There's 1400 employees. They're keeping 1000. Drumph didn't use his yuge expertise in negotiations to come to adeal with Carrier. Rather, he and the state of Indiana, Pense, gave Carrier lots of money through state "incentives" and tax breaks in order to convince the company to stay.
That's not negotiation, that's bribery.

^It can't be saved that way, but every relocation deal involves a heavy amount of incentives. This one was pretty much all PR and only possible because Pence was the governor, but that doesn't mean it was a bad deal. I couldn't really find any details about the exact incentives offered, so the jury is still out on this one, but the use of incentives is not new or a bribe/handout.

We will have to wait for him to be president to see whether his policies allow the manufacturers to make more money in the US, without providing specific incentives to keep them here on each deal. Even then though, cities/counties/states are going to compete for the manufacturing jobs via incentive packages.

Government subsides for companies is a good thing. Very socialist. Go Trump!

Based on what I have read here, it is difficult to make a decision.

What specific tax breaks were offered in exchange for keeping the jobs? What is the meat of this deal?

You would have to weigh the cost of the subsidies against those workers being out of work, potentially leaving the state entirely, or even worse not working and going on some form of government assistance.

I'm sure Carrier would prefer to keep their operation here, if it makes economic sense for them. Moving an operation like this can't be easy and must take a lot of time.

One can only assume that all parties were able to meet in the middle and it sounds like they agreed on a deal that made more sense than the alternative.

I don't think I have ever seen a President working towards projects like this before their inauguration. I'm not making any judgements about it, one way or the other at this point. Just an observation.

The $7 million incentive is not coming from the Feds, it is from the State through the state's Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

And who can authorize the money?

You are wrong 3rd. I have a right to take as much profits out of my company as I want. My business, my profits. Now, that isn't to say that you rape your employees. You don't get ahead in the end doing that. But, you don't overpay them either. That will cost you in the end as well.

I suspect that I am wasting my time writing this. But, I will give it a shot. I invested money in a small business last year, one in Indiatlantic that, fortunately, is doing very well. A large percentage of new, small businesses fail. Thus, I took a big risk in putting my capital into that business, as I might have lost every penny of it. I would not have done that if I had no signifiicant upside. Would have left the money in the bank. That business now has 3 employees, all of whom are getting minimum wage. Each of them will have a chance to earn more in the future. They get paid every week. But I get paid my share every month. Now let me ask you something. Who should benefit more from the success of the business? The one who started the business, hired those employees and has a substantial amount of money at risk, or the ones who have a job only because I took that risk? Would the employees have been better off  if I had not taken the risk and were unemployed instead?

Who can forget the big lie about sniper fire in Bosnia?
