Was pretty encouraged over Cocoa Beach's improvements over past several years -widened sidewalks, more pedestrian and bike friendly, some new interesting businesses. All that progress has been destroyed with Area 142's daily and nightly wall of noise. Why is the City letting one business monopolize and dominate an entire downtown? No longer can you visit or hang out in downtown Cocoa Beach outdoors, or even indoors, or for that matter live within a 1/2 mile of downtown, without hearing the garbage coming out of Area 142 on a regular basis - Thurs. - Sun. constant. Looks terrible as well - like a combination of a putt putt golf course, Chuckey cheez, and a discount cruise ship. I hate to sound like a grumpy old person and I'm all for promoting live music, but this is place is bad news. Can only assume that the City, once again, put more stock in one entity's business venture, than their residents. If the City made promises to this nuisance Area 142 cesspool, they should either start retaining aggressive lawyers, or break out their checkbook, and get rid of Area 142 ASAP. I would not visit downtown Cocoa Beach as long as Area 142 exists - the entire downtown area is now pretty much unusable, particularly Thurs. - Sun.

Poor location for sure, but I am guilty of participating. Pato Banton was a lot of fun. I do see your point though. It's tacky as hell.

I'm betting the million dollar condos just up the road will kill this faster than Florida can kill it's environment.

I noticed they turned down the music last weekend. I've been keeping up with the noise ordinances and watching the city commish meetings.

It's interesting. Some people love it, some hate it Area 142. It's pretty fun place and the food is great. I like it brings a crowd, but I benefit from it being in a local bar band. I'd hate to live next to all the commotion.

Hope they figure it out. Last CB commish meeting they were going to give Area 142 one more month before the ban hammers start coming down.

The place looks like crap. It's too bad the city didn't require to do it tastefully. If the city's goal was to try and bring in riff raff than mission accomplished. I watched all this happen on Ft Lauderdale beach when I was growing up with the development of Beach Place.....I'm all for smart redevelopment, but this is a disaster in the making.

Get used to it. The local govt "leaders" on the mainland are hell bent on turning us into South Florida. Look at what is happening in Melbourne and Palm Bay. I just don't get why they and their ilk want to live in such a place. Of course, all of these transplants will want to go to the beach and we beachsiders will bear the brunt. I hate trying to cross Melbourne and I now hate driving A1A. Those of us who were grew up here in the 50s and 60s got the best of it. But, like crabs in the pot, they are raising the temp so slowly that people don't notice.

Sounds like some drama in the ole "we like to drink , fish, and constantly remodel our bathrooms" town. Surfing used to happen there, too.

My band played at ye olde Johnathan's Pub last Saturday night. They gave me a Brassy's Reunion T-shirt. Ah....*flashback* warning...I remember in the 80s getting the fresh squezed screwdrivers pre-and-post Brassy's rock concerts...To last weekend...I'm now on the stage...turn the page... LOL.

Last time I was in Jonathan's (a few years ago), I was driven out by the smoking. I was really jonesing for a fresh Grapefruit and Vodka, too, but, dang, the smoke was BAD. I used to love that bar, but can't take the smoke anymore.

New owner of Johnathan's upgraded the AC and kicked the smokers out a few years ago. It is smoke free now. Except for my fog machine the air is clean. I agreed it was nasty in there. Thank gawd smoking inside is no longer cool and now illegal.

Good little clip. Thanks. Funny how the Area 142 owners, and that other bar owner interviewed, think that if City changes the time in the noise ordinance from 11PM to 9PM, it will kill the City's economy. I guess the Area 142 owners weren't aware that downtown CB was a much better place to visit and hang out, before they setup shop. Area 142's a public nuisance way before 9PM. Once again, 1 or 2 business, employing a handful a people at unliveable wages think they're the lifeblood and savior of a town.

Her accent doesn't sound like she's from CCB ("what are we gonna do? This is Cocoa Bch.") As a 67 yr resident of Brev Co., it never ceases to amaze me how many people move here and then try to change it. "I'm here now and the rules are different."

The giant stage is now gone and there was a more or less empty Jamaica Me Crazy Sunday night. Times are changin for sure.

I still can't understand how that chunk of land on the busiest corner in Cocoa Beach isn't worth more than artificial grass and mega beer pong? The whole thing is just weird.

I agree Cole - would be interesting to know what the hell kind of deal the 142 degenerate, tasteless owners got, whether in form of a lease or sale. Hopefully, they'll be gone soon, and someone with some taste and decency will put the place to better use. And did the City agree to the green outdoor rug spread over the entire place? WTF Maybe the City should invest in itself, purchase property, turn into a community center, catering to art and music. Oh...I forgot - the City's no. one criteria for approving anything is: will cruise ship customers flock here in droves to get drunk? Second criteria - the business must be adverse to permanent long term residents' interests. I'll never understand commissioners' unwavering commitment to the whims of businesses, catering to tourists. Nearly every time I hear a quote from commissioners or the mayor, they go out of there way to assure the public how pro-business they are. They still haven't figured out that when you focus on making a community into a place where people want to live, and can live, long term, it brings quality businesses in by default.

So really, Cocoa Beach? This is the best we can do for the premier parcel of real estate downtown?! Totally destroying the cool vibe downtown was developing.

Several years ago the town was freaking out over the rambunctious weekend revelers and took steps to shut them down. There was even a big push to ban drinking on the beach. Now this? I totally agree, WTF?

I did see an ultra gorgeous female doing some sort of sexy dance on a post just inside the area, and I wanted to be offended.

Its been a long time coming but welcome to the shit show boys and girls. Used to be a ghost town, even the early 2000s no one cared about downtown cocoa beach area except Coconuts.. it was legit dead but peaceful as we liked. 30+ years later every piece of land beachside is flattened. Condos, Narrow Lot Houses and bars are all that matter. Just wait until Sat Beach has the resort done. HAH! Melbourne Margaritaville on the river.. Hah! 528 East coming into Cape Canav there was hoards of Orlando shmucks pulling on and off the highway with jet skis putting in there then going full speed, doing circles with disregard for anything or anyone. I guess FWC got sick of seeing it and thank God posted two HUGE No Wake Zone Mantatee signs right in front of where they typically park and unload. This place is doomed

fyi, yesterday on Area 142 facebook they announced they have closed and cancelled all upcoming concerts. They also said they sold to an Orlando bar and are going to rebrand it.

Kind of interesting. Check their fb page for more info.

Good riddance. Hopefully City won't be sleeping on the job re turnover to new owners, or will stop with their the philosophy that if it's good for one small business owner, then it's good for the residents and community. Now'd be a good time to tighten the screws. Biking around there a few weeks ago on a Friday or Sat. night, and once again, band (Cure cover band that actually sounded good) fully consuming all of downtown and beyond. I guess their new noise ordinance is not in effect yet, or meaningless? I feel for residents living within 4-5 blocks of downtown, and nearby businesses suddenly forced to compete with a wall of noise every Thursday - Sun.

my friend Todd is in that Cure cover band. They doing great with that. Travelling and pulling in big crowds.

My band is playing at Salty Sisters this Saturday. 6-10pm.

Area 142 was hiring a ton of tribute bands. The new Orlando bar owners seem to be successful in what they do. Will be interesting on how they rebrand that venue. They say still will have live music. I'm thinking probably will target younger people though.

Area 142 was pretty loud. We would be playing at hunkerdown and their sound system would overwelm us at times.

All area 142 concerts are cancelled until further notice. The bar remains open while they remodel and rebrand, but all shows aren't happening.

On another note, The Surfing Santas just last week announced they were moving from Downtown CB to Sheppard Park. But, there was a pretty big backlash.

today it was announced the City of CB worked with Surfing Santas and it is now back in Downtown.
