These new variants have me thinking about doing the same.

KN95 and a cloth mask, I believe in science, wish everyone did.

If they did, we wouldn't be in the situation we are in right now.

HEY! We're twins. I'd put on 3 if I could. I repair restaurant equipment. The employees in all my stores only wear beard nets.

masks are political? huh? But I'll go there, if Qrump would have embraced masks that d-bag would be President still.

I have a pretty thick cloth mask with two layers made in Merritt Island but I wear the other weak masks too.

It was just numbers, not political,

But I don't quit get how going double is supposed to be SO much better at protecting us from unmasked others than a single mask.

I had been understanding that the mask was only marginally useful at protecting me, I wear it to protect others, all of us.

Is that really political?

If you have a properly fitted mask like and wear it correctly, it truthfully won't do much more. According to what I saw, the reasoning for the recommendation is due to the fact that most people aren't doing that. Apparently their research into a solution was that a double mask is the most bang for the buck. Adding a second over the first increase the contact to skin of the first and greatly helps to seal off gaps. Much less particles going out and less particles coming in between the better seal and extra layers of fabric.

At a recent construction project I was on, mask wearing was mandatory. One big burly welder resisted, but finally gave in and started wearing pink lace T-back panties with a feminine hygene pad. He said that counted as two masks, and told everyone who didn't like it to eph off. That cracked me up, and given the number of avid-paranoid mask wearers that still test positive, his system was probably as good as any. I believe if Fauci told everyone to wear a plastic bag over their head a lot of you probably would

Reduced viral load due to the mask. The death rate in mandatory mask areas is far less.

Very true the initial viral load is a huge factor!!! Also another reason I wore double masks initially ( e.g. back in April - May ) is that it extended the wearable lifetime of the n95 mask. I was blessed to have a few packs in my garage from before the pandemic and if I just wore it on its own it maybe lasted a couple maybe few times of wearing before I could see the material wearing, but if I wore a cloth over it then it would last 10 if not 20 times. If you remember back then it was really difficult to get the 95s, and even now they're not cheap...

They say Brazil and it's high infection rate is a Petri dish for new variants. The more people who catch it, the more chance for mutation. One from the jungle might be reinfecting the previously exposed.

Can we expect that to happen in all the states - that are not masked up?

Stupid and pointless comment there at the end. Needless to say it is generally non-mask wearers that infecting people wearing them. Of course, I am going to assume you know that this isn't a binary issue and that even even with full compliance by everyone, people will still get infected. The issue it the rate of infection, easy of infection, and viral load. I assume you are smart enough to know that and forgot that this isn't the NSR board.

The situation in (and presumably around Manaus, Brazil is frightening. They'd figured that their terrible epidemic had infected nearly everyone, so there shouldn't be many more infections. There was a lot of medical interest in what could be the first post-pandemic city (along with maybe Minot, North Dakota). Then they had another terrible epidemic. A variant that happily infects people who've had the original version of the virus. Manaus is not some weird third-world city in an exotic environment. They have competent hospitals and medical people. What happened to them can happen to us.
