Thanks Dave. Yeah that's the shot. Goofy footer. Also have 2 other large framed shots one of another surfer and another of a sign that says "no swimming, surfing only" with a dolphin breaching in background.

Sure that's JC? If you are talking about the guy doing the backside bottom turn going right that might be Dick Pollack. I use to surf at the Inlet regularly mid 70's to mid 90's. JC use to switch foot a lot back then and one of the first times I surfed with him at 1st peak I accidentally dropped in on him. That was probably in 75'. He was riding Dunhams (I'm sure that's incorrect spelling). In the 70's video I see Jacky Grayson(he rode Ocean Avenues probably shaped by Greg Loehr), Gary Paul(he was riding Rainbows shaped by Doug Wright) and Kevin Ogden from Daytona. Jacky surfed really good which is obvious in the video, he had a solid smooth cutback in the video. The other video with Slater also had Bill Hartley on the first 2 or 3 rides.

Yep, just heard from someone else just before you posted that he is 100 percent sure it's Pollack. And thank you!

Yep, that's not Crawford, I spent some time around him in boatyards, and in San Diego with rusty and the g&s team.

I always thought Jackie was an insane surfer with a great style. One of the best at SI on any given day.

My apologies on misspelling Dick Pollock's last name. There are a couple really old surf mags with some very good photo's of the Sebastian Inlet including a few of Monster Hole. One article was titled "I Love Cocoa Beach" and it had some insane pictures of first peak with Mike Tabling and Fletcher Sharpe. It mislabeled some of the pictures as Shark Pit. I think MT might have written that article but not 100% sure. Also another article titled "Florida in 250 Words or Less" and I think Gary Propper was the lead on that one. That article included a couple priceless pictures that showed just how good it was. There was a picture of Dick Catri on a giant perfect right at Monster Hole, another picture of Buzzy Foye on a beautiful lime green wedge, another pulled back picture showing a long period swell creating a "first peak" wedge that due to the long interval is shifted way to the north and it was very open angled wedge unlike the tight over wedged waves that plagued it before it's final demise in 2005 or so. The was another pictorial that Alan Margolis did that called it "Morning Side Drive" which was probably around 75'. It had some great pictures of 1st peak with JC, Greg Loehr and Doug Wright. Besides the jetty rebuild I think the sand accumulation all around the inlet is what ruined it. Early on it was really deep all around the inlet.

"I Love cocoa beach" title was a hope to not name 1st peak and spanny to the masses as the word was getting out, and the picture of Fletcher compressed at the bottom of that wave was awesome!

I recall another 1st peak photo of Gary Chapman in one of the magazines and it was probably the biggest photo I've ever seen of the inlet and it was thick and jacking. I'm not sure but was Gary "Owl" Chapman's brother? First time I surfed the inlet at ~ age 13 we got there at what must have been high tide and it was almost breaking on the beach but we when out anyway. As the tide dropped suddenly a legit 1st peak jacked up and Dennis Bubb dropped in backside and destroyed the wave. Coming from Cocoa Beach it might as well been Pipeline I was so blown away as I'd never seen anything like it.

Let me take a wild guess, you acquired them from Charlie Tuna...

I don't know. I have two more and one is a surfing shot (did not recognize the surfer) and one of a sighn sticking up out of the water that says "no swimming-surfing only" with a porpoise breaching in the background along with surfers sitting in a lineup. Will have to take a look at the photo again to see if it looks like Tabeling. Pollack actually said Tabeling called him to have him sign a model release for them to use the photo for those prints.

Pollack just told me the other photo is Fletcher Sharpe and from the description above sounds like the shot of him from the "I love Cocoa Beach" article.

The one of Fletcher looked almost B&W with him compressed at the bottom, Mike was dropping in about 1/3 the way down.

The Assassination of First Peak -- now that was a real painful event to experience. When it happened, I was living in Brazil. I remember a buddy of mine messaging me about the petition to save First Peak. At the time, I was not planning on moving back to Florida and was enjoying lots of surfing, but I didn't hesitate in signing the petition. Unfortunately, the signatures were not enough to stop the slaughter.

I visited the inlet over this weekend and caught myself shedding a tear. My wife asked me what happened and I gave her and my son the scoop. Some wonderful memories came to mind... Early 90's driving from Miami with my surf buddies -- "The Dade County Troublemakers". Yeah we had our share of encounters with the law, none which were significant, just the usual "you shouldn't be playing guitar at this time at night", "you guys are far from home, what are you doing here?", "what type of cigarette are you guys smoking? (artists tobacco)...

Plenty of nights we slept in a tent, in our cars, or even on the sand, to wake up to beautiful A-frame waves and impeccable rights bouncing off the jetty. Those were the carefree days... I remember seeing the Salters, Hobgoods, Cory Lopez, along with a whole bunch of shredding machine groms. Those were the days...
