Businesses throughout Central Florida have donated a variety of items to be auctioned including original Dan Mackin artwork, fishing charters, surfboards, gift certificates, and hotel stays from various. There is something here for everyone. Last year there were 1300 people in attendance with over 800 auction items.

Note:   I just revisd the schedule of events (see towards top of thread).

NKF is trying to get in touch w/ the Director of ESA Central FL to request a re-schedule.  Same thing happen last year w/ NSSA and they understood the importance of us trying to raise money TO HELP SAVE LIVES.



Each month in FL, approx 600+ applications come to NKF from people asking for help ~ they only have enough funds to help 200 patients a month.  American Heart Association is realizing that a lot of heart attacks are caused from kidney problems.  We're trying to raise money to HELP SAVE LIVES and to educate the public.  If you're NOT an organ donor ~ I urge you to become one.  Each organ donor can save 7 lives and they can affect/help 33 lives.

Every Thursday night there is a VOLUNTEER meeting at CBSC in the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame room on 3rd Floor at 7PM.  Due to bad economy, we are having to work twice as hard to collect donations for the silent auction.  We urge you to bring us any 're-gifts' you may have, baskets, wine, gift certificates you may have that you can donate to NKF or even $5.00 cash to meetings.  We can collect the smaller donations & make a basket to auction off at the silent auction to raise money.  Every little bit helps, even a $1.00 donation can make a difference!

In addition to PRO Surfers receiving prize money, both 1st place winners in Pro Men & Pro Women will be presented a custom made sculpture by Chris Woloszak valued at $5,000 presented by the Wyland Gallery.  Chrix is the artist who made the shark sculpture tropies few years back for the PROs.


We don't know what the sculpture will be for this year, but NKF knows it will be spectacular!  Thank you Chris Woloszak & The Wyland Gallery for your generous donations!

25th NKF Labor Day Surf Festival's popularity endures ~ BY HILLARD GROSSMAN • FLORIDA TODAY • September 1, 2010


"Now 60 years old, the cancer survivor and three-time kidney-transplant recipient (in 1974 from his identical twin, Phil; in 1986 from his now-late brother Channing; and in 1999 from his third brother, Wilson) is feeling the wear and tear.

Rich will need another kidney transplant, perhaps before the end of the year, this one from his oldest son, Philip, 32."

"Besides the kidney transplants, he's undergone cancer treatments for a Leiomyosarcoma that was first discovered on his skull, and later radiated through his lymph system, causing him to lose a quarter of his left lung."


Today, there are 108,000 people on the national kidney transplant waiting list on that list (88,000 of those awaiting kidneys).
