Talking about last swell, T.S. Alex proved many forecasters wrong and provided swell for Saturday thru Thursday. With Sunday thru Thursday glassy mornings. Swell was bigger on Thursday than Wednesday. This goes against conventional wisdom that we never get swells from a weak disturbance especially if it is moving away from us. I think a lot of us thought once the Low pressure moved out into the Atlantic that it fizzed out, but it actually almost got to hurricane strength near Bermuda. This is more than likely why Thursday was bigger than Wednesday. Also, never saw swell period over 11 seconds on the canaveral buoys. Thursday seemed more like a 12 to 14 second period swell and the NE angle was perfect for SattyBe.
From recent article: "After flirting near hurricane strength Sunday night, Tropical Storm Alex's wind speed declined to 60-mph winds Monday afternoon, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center." Looking at Sunday Stuff and having my muscles finally recovering from surfing 5 days in row and starting to itch to surf again: Weather models are showing something spin off of Hatteras and move out to Bermuda and staying weak. Mid-week or later. Something to watch. Also, long range models are showing a possible hurricane yucatan/Gulf of mex next week/weekend. This Sunday eve, stormsurf buoy forecast (41009) has a spike up for 6/20. Too far away in time to say for sure. But, i'm glad to see that. NWS marine forecast off of Hatteras: SYNOPSIS FOR MID ATLC WATERS A cold front will move slowly SE over the area later Mon into Wed night as developing low pressure moves E along the front Tue into Tue night. High pressure will build SE over the region Wed through Thu, then shift E of the area Thu night and Fri. NHC has this tidbit in their Sunday discussion: Looking ahead, winds and seas may increase over the south-central Gulf by Fri as low pressure possibly approaches from the northwest Caribbean. Edit: Corrected date to 6/20 was typed wrong 9/20. Edited: 06/14/2022 at 04:44 PM by Central Floridave |
