Jan. 6 panel calls surprise hearing to present new evidence

MARY CLARE JALONICK and FARNOUSH AMIRI
Mon, June 27, 2022, 1:12 PM

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House Jan. 6 panel is calling a surprise hearing this week to present evidence it says it recently obtained, raising expectations of new bombshells in the sweeping investigation into the Capitol insurrection.

The hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday comes after Congress left Washington for a two-week recess. Lawmakers on the panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection said last week that there would be no more hearings until July.

The subject of the hearings is so far unclear. A spokesman for the panel declined to comment on its substance.

The committee's investigation has been ongoing during the hearings that started three weeks ago, and the nine-member panel has continued to probe the attack by supporters of then-President Donald Trump. Among other investigative evidence, the committee recently obtained new footage of Trump and his inner circle taken both before and after Jan. 6, 2021 from British filmmaker Alex Holder.

Holder said last week that he had complied with a congressional subpoena to turn over all of the footage he shot in the final weeks of Trump's 2020 reelection campaign, including exclusive interviews with Trump, his children and then-Vice President Mike Pence while on the campaign trail. The footage includes material from before the insurrection and afterward.

It is uncertain if Holder's footage is the subject of the hearing on Tuesday, or if Holder himself will be there. Russell Smith, a lawyer for Holder, declined to comment.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, the panel's Democratic chairman, told reporters last week that the committee was in possession of the footage and needed more time to go through the hours of video Holder had turned over. The British filmmaker came in for a deposition Thursday that lasted two hours, Smith said last week.

Smith said then that it was Holder's "civic duty" to come forward and that the footage had shown some inconsistencies with previous testimony during the hearings.

The panel has held five hearings so far, mostly laying out Trump's pressure campaign on various institutions of power in the weeks leading up to the Jan. 6 joint session of Congress that eventually certified Democrat Joe Biden's presidential victory. The committee detailed the pressure from Trump and his allies on Vice President Mike Pence, on the states that were certifying Biden's win and on the Justice Department.

The panel has used live interviews, video testimony of its private witness interviews and also footage of the attack to detail what it has learned.

Lawmakers said last week that the two July hearings would focus on domestic extremists who breached the Capitol that day and on what Trump was doing as the violence unfolded.

I think the breaking news at this hearing will exonerate Trump, his legal team, his family, and his WH Team from any 1/6 responsibility.

Ten hours of footage shot over 6 weeks at the height of the campaign to overthrow american constitutional government. And the whole bunch of swine spilled the proverbial beans, including first lady iwanka directly perjuring herself. Wait, somebody was actually FILMING that?.....whoooooops

Really more interested in the 'current' members of the house, senate & juduciary (direct & 'indirect' - incl jinny t?(sp) getting implicated..

Just for starters - those seeking 'pardons', just for example..

If so. what should the 'consequences' be?

None? Shoe on the other foot now? Like that apple?

Should these 'characters' loose their 'positions of power'? immediately? What about voting in the interim - i.e. before 'replacements' can be 'put in place'..

Also see major precedent being set for major 'antifa' riots in '24 being 'OK' if a qop wins the next prez - right guys - & gals? Say it's so - pretty please?

Add this to the list:

Eric Trump thought inciting violence was 'fair game' because he believed false claims that the 2020 election was 'stolen,' according to filmmaker subpoenaed by January 6 committee

Alex Holder, the British documentary filmmaker whose footage was subpoenaed by the January 6 committee earlier this month, told The Independent that Trump's second eldest son, Eric Trump, suggested in interviews that violence from Trump supporters could be an appropriate response to his father's loss to President Joe Biden, citing baseless and disproven claims of election fraud.

"When I asked Eric about the potential danger of sort of rhetoric and the sort of the belligerence, he felt that it was ... fair game in that it ... was sort of the equivalent on the other side of the political discourse, or he felt that it was the right thing to do ... because the election was stolen," Holder told the outlet.

Jan. 6 Hearing Moved Up Over Fears for Meadows Aide's Safety: Report

Dan Ladden-Hall
Mon, June 27, 2022, 10:59 PM

First came the surprising news that the Jan. 6 committee would be hosting a hearing on Tuesday. Now we might know why: their star witness could be in danger.

Cassidy Hutchinson, who was an aide to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows during the attack on the U.S. Capitol, was revealed Monday as the mystery witness set to testify before the panel later Tuesday. But while the panel said it had hastily arranged a previously unscheduled hearing "to present recently obtained evidence and receive witness testimony," it wasn't exactly clear why this couldn't wait until after a planned two-week hiatus the panel was supposed to take. According to Punchbowl News, members of the select committee brought the hearing forward in part over "sincere concerns" for Hutchinson's physical safety because of what she has revealed to the panel, and that her testimony will inform the hearings that are due to take place in July.

Meadows Torched Docs After Sit-Down With Scott Perry, Ex-Aide Testifies

Hutchinson has already testified a few times before the panel in closed sessions. As Meadows' executive assistant during the insurrection, she was at the heart of the West Wing and was party to vital meetings held by Trump in the lead-up to the attack.

And Hutchinson has already been credited with a string of jaw-dropping revelations about the events around the 2020 election. In May, reports emerged from her testimony that Meadows set about burning documents in his White House office after a meeting with Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), who wanted to overturn the election result. Hutchinson also blew the whistle on the ass-covering requests from six House Republicans to be granted presidential pardons for their actions around the riot at the Capitol. And arguably most shocking of all was Cassidy's confirmation that Trump had approved of "Hang Mike Pence" chants as a mob tried to stop Joe Biden's certification as president.

Exactly what kind of dirt Hutchinson has yet to dish isn't entirely clear. But as Politico reported this month, it's believed that the former White House insider has become more willing to fully cooperate with the panel after a change of legal counsel. Hutchinson was previously represented by Stefan Passantino, Trump's main ethics attorney while in office. Her new counsel, Jody Hunt, was former Attorney General Jeff Sessions' chief of staff during the breakdown of Sessions' relationship with Trump over the Russia investigation.

As well as Hutchinson's public testimony, there could be other groundbreaking moments during Tuesday's hearing. The drum-rolled "recently obtained evidence" that the panel referred to could be derived from the tapes handed over by British documentary filmmaker Alex Holder, who supplied hours of footage shot with Trump and his inner circle before and after the election.

Holder has already publicly alleged that the president held a previously undisclosed phone call with Vladimir Putin aboard Air Force One just before voters went to the polls in late 2020.

This is getting more and more ridiculous. So, the GOP has a hit out on this woman, eh? The dems do know how to take advantage of the stupidity of their base. I'll give them that. But, all the thinking members of their base have become Republicans and, as a result, that base is shrinking by the day. No one wants to be played as a fool, except for progs.

Your boys wanted to hang their own vice president, so you can't be too careful when dealing with pugs.

Speaking of pugs though, from July 25 until August 24 I'll be helping swell the rolls of "republican" voters.

Popcorn, please!

Filmmaker may have proof Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump discussed Jan. 6 plan months earlier

Congressional investigators believe plans for disrupting the Jan. 6 certification of the November election results were communicated to advisers to Trump Jr. and his fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle before the election had taken place, and documentary filmmaker Alex Holder appears to have evidence to prove this was true.

"Now, what also emerged during that deposition is that the documentary film crew got access to the Trump Hotel on the 29th of September of 2020. That was the night of the first debate, and that's really significant because Alex Holder was able to record Don Jr. and Eric and others on the phone and having candid private conversations among each other about strategies with respect to the 2020 election. That date is significant not just because it came before the election, but because it shows there was a coordinated plan among the Trump family and their allies to disrupt a potential loss by the president.
