One Percent of U.S. Counties Account for Bulk of COVID-19 Deaths

Through September 19, there have been 197,636 deaths in the U.S. from COVID-19, but a significant proportion of those have occurred in just a handful of counties. In fact, the 30 counties with the most deaths represent 1 percent of all counties, 18 percent of the total U.S. population, and 39 percent of all U.S. deaths.
