I'd say it depends on what branch of engineering.

Power: UF was in pretty thick with FPL and had high placement with them.
Aerospace: don't know. What is it, mechanical and materials blend?
RF: neither. USF is tops.
Digital(EE): best people I've worked with were from UF.
Mechanical: don't know, but my workplace has heaps from UF.
CS: pure CS, UCF seems to still have an edge over UF, but I don't follow it.

Find out what programs he is interested in and do a little research on what the schools do and how much money they get for research and bringing interesting projects to the students.

I was accepted at Ga Tech and UCF (with a scholarship), but I ended up going to UF.
