Man, summa you guys are old...
Here's my contribution-1st some pix. Some are from the Brevard Mosquito Beaters website http://www.mosquitobeaters.org/ lots more photos on the site. Meeting is March 13th and 14th this year-Check it out-really a great organization-you'll see people from all over Brevard that have been around here a long time. Joe Morgan 1966... Cape Worker, Bank Vice Prez and Cocoa Beach Mayor The Samoa and the Glass Bank CB Welcome sign, Starlight Motel and Lee Caron and the Kut-Ups Some memories: Nort's LaScene-Nort Kurlan wouldn't pay the man who paved his parking lot so the guy came back and tore up the whole lot with a front-end loader-saw it happen-it was in the paper next day. Back when driving on the beach was allowed, saw a family from Indiana or Illinois washing the mud from their car with ocean water-looked really clean-car probably rusted away before they got home...not a whole lotta salt water in the midwest I guess. That big globe sign in front of the Satellite Motel rotated in the wrong direction. Also, one day the Motel put a bunch of girls wearing skimpy Bikinis out on A1A to attract business-heard it on the radio-after several fender-benders, CB Police made 'em stop. My 1st day in Florida-Jan. '66, I chatted with a young Surfer Kid up by Canaveral (now Cocoa Beach) Pier. Really helpful guy-answered all my questions about resturants, shopping, directions to places etc. etc. Saw the Kid's pic in the paper a few days later-name was Gary Propper. ------------------------- Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Once upon a time, I bought a bikini for my X from Shagg ..... With a smile and a wink, she sold me on one particular one because it had "these easy opening latches on the hips" I promptly whipped out the cash.
She was right and both the X and I still have fond memory's of that bikini. ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. I remember seeing the "Coasters" at the Samoa.
They had trouble getting started on "Little Egypt" (wrong key). But basically it was a pretty good show. ------------------------- Wooden Boards for Iron Men |

1) Don't forget the Royal Castle across from RCs (hence the name; not "Rock City" or any of the others that have been rumored).
2) Seeing Dave Fiester and Austin Pettit (I think the band was Fresh Juice, before Tight Shoes) at the Satellite Motel (under 21 on the north-south wing, with pizza and sodas, and over 21 on the east-west wing, with alcohol)
3) Boger's Bunch at the Shakey's on 520
4) Virginia Fried Chicken (right next to Balsa Bill's), owned by Mrs. Casullo and the best fried chicken around
5) Hamburg House (where Buccaneer condo is) - great hamburgers and a great break
6) Nort's La Scene, where my buddy lost his (oral) virginity with a CCB HS girl after a Satellite HS/CCB HS football game
7) Beer on the Pier (became Fisherman's Wharf, at which I worked) - free steamed crabs as long as the parents were buying beer; what a deal
8) Open market on the Indialantic Boardwalk (because the entire police dept was under indictment for vandalizing impounded cars, false arrests, etc, etc) (I was working at the Galley and Grog and watched it go down every night)

Remember shaggs from the mid-70's until they shut down at BW a few years back? Maybe longer? I thought that was a Krystal Burger near Brassy's/Glass Bank? Didn't read anything above so maybe it was covered? ------------------------- |

Great Post!! How 'bout.... Cocoa Beach Surfside Playhouse to catch surf flicks. Beer bottles rolling down the aisles with a nice aroma filling the air! Keg parties on Tortiose, Samsons, and Lansing Islands. The drive-in movies at the Palms and IHB. No leashes, followed by the deadly bungie chord leashes, followed by the Power cord leashes. Single-fins. George Panton and his asymetrical Inspiration shapes. The sand floor at Oceanside Surf Shop. Whoa.. the memories!

Nice....lotsa memories there.
I have video footage from Brevard dating back to late 50's. My dad was a photographer for Space Coast magazine and pretty much had camera, movie gear wherever we went. I'll have to cut some clips and post 'em up. ------------------------- www.timebaughdesigns.com |

Philips screwdrivers, late night at Jonathons. Listening to Hotel California in the line-up coming from the jukebox at The Islanderhut. Working with the crew at Pelican Point followed by many all nighters at the Caldwells house.
Driving right up to the bluff at Xanadus to surf overhead dredging sand dumpers. Sprinting through the trail at Seagrape to do the same.
Happy hour roast beef at Bernards surf (and the two for ones!) Those keggers at Lori Wilson. Going from one bonfire to the next while hiking back from a drift session on cold winter days. No speed limit (enforced) and no traffic all the way from Ocean Avenue to the Inlet. Good Times, indeed...

Following is a list of original names and the names that are used now - 1) AP Shack (2nd light), 2) the Pier (Pier-less, Hangers, Hanger-less), 3) Gulf Beach (named for the Gulf station on the corner of SE 1st street and A1A) (Seagull Park), 4) Lum's (Perkin's), 5) Hamburg House (aka, Hammie's) (Buccaneer Beach), 6) Pet Den, 7) Mark Realty (Pelican Park). I am always perplexed how these names got changed. Too many newcomers, I guess.
