Currently getting rain. Kinda steady. Not enough to get through the hard dry top soil yet, but maybe if it keeps raining all afternoon! (knock on wood)

It is dry as a bone here and my water bill is steadily increasing. Rain all around but very little here. Rain barrels empty. Hoping for today and tomorrow.

Wow, nice to get some chunky rain on Sunday and today Monday. More rain everyday this week and the weekend. Making me wonder if rainy season came early this year?!?

Model rainfall and
WPC QPF progs indicate some areal rainfall amounts in the 6-8 inch
range for the 7 day period with the high rain chances expected to
continue the next seven days. There will be some concern for minor
flooding in areas that receive locally heavy rain over multiple days
through the upcoming week.

I've already had 5-3/8" (as of an hour ago, with several showers since) today in downtown Mel Bch. There's going to be a lot more than 6"-8" over the next few days (unless it really lets up).

Knocked a bunch of blooms off our plumerias. But jump started a bunch of other stuff that has been waiting for rain and humidity. Encyclia tampensis at the base of one of our oaks suddenly has over a dozen spikes. Should put on a show this year.

I guess we entered the rainy season. I like it. All the rain buckets are full and won't need to water anything for a couple weeks. So, keep raining. Luvit.

I got about 5 inches last night! Amazing how much we have been getting. I think I'll dump out all the captured rain water this weekend. I do that at least once a week to keep the mosquito from breeding in it. But, probably won't need to set them after.

The tropicals are loving it! Me to. Can't even remember last time I dragged the hose.

Melbourne received 8.19 inches of rain for the month, which was
4.90 inches above normal. This is the 3rd wettest May on record for
this site, with records dating back to 1937.

Yeah, we've been getting pounded up here.... especially hard storms the past few days.  My yard (south of St. Aug beach) has standing water in it, as do most drainage swales everywhere

The rain doesn't want to make it across the river.

it sucks. Mini-drought for sure beachside and Merritt Island. Croton are weeping.

When synoptic forcing is weak and storm formation trigger is entirely sea breeze dominated we are in a bit of a hole. The interior gets the best coverage where the east and west coast breezes occur. We get double dry whammy in middle Merritt Island and east Rockledge because the concave coastline creates a divergent sea breeze. Drove me crazy when I moved here and I'd see the storms from Port St. John on north. Always seemed to form around us. Well it is the shape of the coast. Have to have the synoptic pattern pin the seabreeze to the coast or blow the inland convection back to us to get rain.

It is lightning distribution but it shows where the convection happens under various flow scenarios. Panel A on page 92 is the flow pattern we've had for this mini-drought (which should be ending today or tomorrow with flow going to westerly steering instead of calm to light southerly). http://fuelberg.met.fsu.edu/pu.../lericos-fuelberg-2002

Finally got a ton of rain yesterday. Long time and really needed. My rain buckets are full again. Thanks for those links going to check them out. I live S.M.I. and I call this area the black hole. Due to watching the doppler radar and seeing no rain from Cocoa Beach to South M.I. and down to Mel Beach. Give or take a mile or two. The Black Hole phenomena is real!

Yard is getting crispy. Papayas have even kicked off a little fruit and the oaks and loquat are shedding leaves. Local NWS office keeps overcalling rain chances; e.g. call for 30, 40, 50 percent chance and realized coverage is <10 or 20. They finally dropped the forecast to 20 percent these last couple of days and even that was over-done. Local NWS office also keeps saying "temps near or slightly above climo" in their forecaster's discussion. A low temp of 79F with a dewpoint of >75F is not "near or slightly above". It is two standard deviations above. Yeah, its only 5-6 degrees. 5-6 degrees above or below the mean or median is nothing in winter but it is a big deviation from the historical record during the wet season, especially when it occurs day after day after day. Melbourne/Titusville reporting stations tied or broke record warm minimums 12 times in August. If it wasn't for that one shot of rain in late August we'd be in a jam east of I-95.

yes, missing rain. that 8/24 was the last time I've seen any. Super hot temps. Yuck for early September. Seems like Florence sucked all the moisture out the atmosphere and moved it North.

Got a good storm this afternoon about 2:30-ish, lightning & thunder, still thundering with more stuff coming in from the North.
From the looks of the ditches it was a pretty heavy rain, not a slow soaker. Not sure how much in inches because I haven't emptied the gauge in awhile.

Seems like the rain days are getting further and further apart. Florence seemed to suck a lot of the moisture out. Typical Fall season. Overall, for me, it has been a great rainy year. That august drought had me scared a little bit, but my drag hosing was minimal work. Most my yard is under shade and well naturally mulched. That helps also.

Well the formatting on the table of this morning's weather summary that I tried to paste in didn't take. Anyway, average rain at Melbourne from 1-Sept to 27-Sept is 7.13". They've gotten 1.63" so far this month. That is more typical of a dry-season total. But we aren't in the dry season. The dewpoint is staying above 75 degrees most days.

An itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny shower. There's been just enough rain to avoid having to water the grass, but it's starting to go brown.

Got a shower each of the last two nights. The mimosa that had gone dormant is perking up. Better than nothing but not good to be getting dry season levels of rain when it is still quite hot and humid. You know, the last September and early October that was this hot and humid but rain-free was 2009. Remember winter 2010? The blocking pattern that is giving us this weather and stalling Leslie out over the open Atlantic for ever and ever is the same type of pattern that can give us brutal winter weather.

Well, it seems like we get a hard freeze winter once a decade. 2010 was 8 years ago so we are about ready for another one! Hope not. But, i'm ready for winter to hit with some cooler temps. I've been doing a lot of out door yard work and been semi-saving the hard stuff for cooler temps. I guess we will get cooler temps sometime in the next coming months!
