Trump VP contender Kristi Noem defends killing her dog




Ms Noem wrote in the memoir of trying to teach Cricket, a 14-month old wirehaired pointer, how to behave by taking her on a pheasant hunt with some older dogs.

"I hated that dog," she said.

The situation made her realise "another unpleasant job needed to be done" that day - getting rid of a male goat her family owned.

The goat was "nasty and mean", smelled "disgusting, musky, rancid", and would chase her young children, knocking them down.

Ms Noem said she shot down the goat in the same manner as Cricket, though the goat survived the first bullet, forcing her to go back to her truck to retrieve another shell.

The school bus dropped her children off shortly afterwards.

Noticing that the dog was nowhere to be found, her daughter asked: "Hey, where's Cricket?"



Shooting a dog barely a year old because you "hated it"? Yup, its the Pro Dog-Killing Party alright.

You guys get all butt hurt from a woman killing a retarded dog, but have no problem with killing healthy humans in the womb. Priorities? Yes I see them.

She's trying to put out an image of being a hardscrabble farmer. The reality is that was a poorly trained pet that she killed. Name brand dog is a luxury item and she could have let the national breed rescue fix her mess. That was not a working dog putting meat on the table like the old tobacco farm where my parents worked in the 60s.

How was this dog untrainable? The dog gets shot because she's a failure with a puppy? This is her attempt to show she's capable of killing a work dog, not a pet, as a farmer capable of hard farm decisions. This was not a work dog. That's why she supplemented the story with a goat, clearly not a pet. This is where she pretends she had the gun in her hand and had to keep culling the errant animal. She wanted to be seen as a stoic farmer capable of hard practical decisions on a farm. Instead she comes across as a politician using a story that shows she would rather kill a problem instead of solving it.
