The weird thing about all this stuff is that it only goes one way.

You will never see Charlize Theron playing Tina Turner. You will never see Jake Gyllenhaal playing Barrack Obama. You will never see Matt Damon playing Muhammad Ali.

I'm suggesting that these swaps in movies are done by executives attempting to virtue signal and show the world how "non-racist" they are without realizing that most people don't go to movies to be preached to. These types changes to movies just annoy most people. It isn't because people need to see mermaids as only being white. It annoys people because this change was obviously made to preach to people. Had the original Little Mermaid been made starring someone of color, no one would think twice. If Disney made a sequel of Moana, staring a white girl, I wouldn't like that either.

What you're saying is that you are offended by non-white (or non cisgender-hetero) actors portraying fictional characters that you accept as being canonically white and straight.

And you further question the motives of the business. The only goal of the business is to make money, they aren't interested in changing the world or changing racists minds either. They are calculating that by portraying diverse characters that they will make more money from bringing those formerly marginalized but economically capable fans than they will lose from racially grieving bigots.

Why not just make new movies or new characters? And I already said that I don't want to see Moana played by someone who is white. I don't want to see Pocahontas played by someone who is white. If someone wants to make that move, then they should create a new movie, with new characters instead of just being lazy and annoying.
