According to Deadline, between the production and promotion costs, the perverts at Disney dropped $390 million into this white elephant. My math says it will have to gross something close to $800 million worldwide just to break even. Movie theaters take about half of every ticket sold. Half of $800 million is $400 million. If the movie grosses just $600 million worldwide, that is a $200 million loss, and that kind of domestic gross is still a big "if." Over its opening weekend, the remake came in below expectations. So the idea it could gross $300 to $350 million domestically seems, well, optimistic. do you get turned on by guys making out with guys? |

The weird thing about all this stuff is that it only goes one way.
You will never see Charlize Theron playing Tina Turner. You will never see Jake Gyllenhaal playing Barrack Obama. You will never see Matt Damon playing Muhammad Ali. Why is everyone perfectly okay with these roles going in one direction but would be appalled by the examples I suggested? Well snipe, Tina Turner, Obama, and Ali are black people. Are you suggesting that a mythological human-fish trans-creature is automatically Caucasian? I'm suggesting that these swaps in movies are done by executives attempting to virtue signal and show the world how "non-racist" they are without realizing that most people don't go to movies to be preached to. These types changes to movies just annoy most people. It isn't because people need to see mermaids as only being white. It annoys people because this change was obviously made to preach to people. Had the original Little Mermaid been made starring someone of color, no one would think twice. What you're saying is that you are offended by non-white (or non cisgender-hetero) actors portraying fictional characters that you accept as being canonically white and straight.
And you further question the motives of the business. The only goal of the business is to make money, they aren't interested in changing the world or changing racists minds either. I've already said that what they are doing is stupid, annoying, and lazy, regardless of which direction the change goes. Are you saying that you would be completely fine with Disney remaking Enchanto using a white girl as Mirabel?
