Plenty of studies that show plenty of mobility between quintiles. One says that 73 percent of Americans will spend a year in the top 20 percent of the income distribution. Since 27% of Americans are progs (who have zero chance of getting out of the bottom 20%), that means that 100% of normal Americans spend at least one year in the top 20%. 39% of Americans will spend at least one year in the top 5%.
