>> In a break with decades of tradition, the Internal Revenue Service says it will allow houses of worship to endorse candidates for political office without losing their tax-exempt status. The surprise announcement came in a court document filed on Monday. Since 1954, a provision in the tax code called the Johnson Amendment says that churches and other nonprofit organizations could lose their tax-exempt status if they participate in, or intervene in "any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office." The National Religious Broadcasters and several churches sued the IRS over the rule, arguing that it infringes on their First Amendment rights to the freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion...<< Can you imagine churches, mega churches and even little churches competing for congregants with their politics? Losing congregants for their positions? Endorsing politicians for all the wrong reasons? Christianity is about to put out the tables and set up a bazaar inside the churches. WWJD? Kidding. I know exactly what Jesus would do. Let's see how thumpers are readers and remember what Jesus did. ------------------------- "One of the reasons why propaganda tries to get you to hate government is because it's the one existing institution in which people can participate to some extent and constrain tyrannical unaccountable power." So, if the new left leaning Pope strongly suggest to the millions of catholic 'muricans should vote against the radical right wing, it is ok? ------------------------- It was fun while it lasted. |

Are you so daft that you don't see that this helps progs. Black churches have been endorsing candidates my whole life. I guess Trump could have sought to remove their tax exempt status. Think this was the better solution. Of course, that is why progs are outraged again. And the White ones haven't? lol ------------------------- I was right. |
