Shit. They need a better promoter.

But then again, Joe is right... Every day is Clash day.

I saw them few times in '70's.
My favorites were their covers:
I fought the law
Brand New Cadillac....check out the backstory on the guy that wrote that, Vince Taylor
aka the real ziggy stardust
Police and thieves
But best of all was Joe and the mescaleros:
Get Down Moses
Cooln Out
Johnny Appleseed

Washington bullets.
In heaven, not only here
Clampdown
Straight to hell
Guns of brixton
Lost in the supermarket
Brand new Cadillac
The call up.
One more time, on more dub.

This is getting pointless for me. I love their music.

The louder it's played, the better.

Bankrobber
Train in Vain
Tommy Gun
Police and Thieves
London Calling
White Riot
Somebody Got Murdered
Janie Jones

Yep, too many to list.

My son and I wandered around Brixton last summer, and it still had that look and feel to it. Graffiti, art, global music played live on street corners, outdoor markets, island food, and all walks of life; from old Rastafarians to Mohawk punks, and everyone in between.

Iggy Pop was the God father of punk.

The Clash was more rock a billy.

MC5 - all the elements and ethos of punk can be found right here. Even the audience doesn't quite know what to make of it.

In time...some of their kid's would.

Right on Joe.

I got to see The Clash on their Combat Rock Tour. By that point the lads had certainly conquered America and were full-fledged rock stars.

They came to play at my college as the first show of what was to be an arena/stadium tour. Naturally they had more speakers and wattage than our gym could handle.

I was on the concert committee at school and would volunteer to "guard" the sound board during the visiting band's sound check. Always the best seat in the house and a great way to meet the band. Needless to say, they were extremely LOUD!

After the sound check the band huddled around the board to discuss what they had determined.

The sound guy kept telling them "Fellows it's just too damn loud!"

Finally, after a few minutes argument, Joe just turns to him dripping with condescension and sneers, "We want the audience to share our pain." and then just walked away. So punk!

I burst out laughing and the sound guy just glared at me, shrugged and mumbled something about Limey a-holes.

Indeed...we felt their pain...all night long and well into the next day.

Wayne Kramer was before his time. I saw Henry do a cover of Kick out the Jams live and he put his special touch on it. Great stuff.

And Joe, I prefer the studio recording over the live version. It's crispy clean, with a nice punch. I really love when the bass rolls back in at 2:22. That gets muddled in the live versions.

WBF : Very famous early Clash legend ---- they were playing live on French TV ( 1976 or 1977 ) and the volume output was so loud , that ALL Three of the French Sound Engineers walked off of the job , citing the possibility of irreparable permanent hearing damage . Cole : I like the raw power and visual performance of the live video ---esp Joe collapsing on stage .

Yeah Cole. Kramer and "Sonic" Smith were way ahead of the curve. I've also heard that The Clash song "Jail Guitar Doors" was about Wayne.

"Let me tell you 'bout Wayne and his deals of cocaine
A little more every day
Holding for a friend till the band do well
Then the DEA locked him away"

Joe S. I hadn't heard that French TV story before. Sounds about right ...it makes me laugh and suddenly a lot of things make sense. Haha.
