Surf season seems to be April-November (winter). On Surfline, search for Galhetas.

It was a beautiful area when I was there 28 years ago. Heard it's gotten very expensive. Was colder than I expected in their winter.

I haven't been anywhere in South America, regrettably. All I've seen of southern Brazil was a talk by Dennis Cathcart, who created the big Tropiflora nursery (mostly bromeliads) in Sarasota. He liked the orchids. It seems an interesting area, fitting in with Uruguay and doing a lot better than Argentina.

The island is beautiful as are its women! The area has some European influence and culture, as does the region around Uruguay and Argentina. You can appreciate the swell exposure on this map link:

Exposure and latitude seems about equivalent to Durban, South Africa. I'm sure continental shelves are different between the two.
