The original builders
The property has a rich history that begins with the Whaley family.

The Whaleys settled on north Merritt Island in the late 1800s, where they had large swaths of land for growing oranges. They moved to Rockledge when the bridge across the Indian River was built in 1917, settling on Rockledge Drive, also known as River Road, near the Cocoa border. There, they opened a small fruit stand.
Marion S. Whaley, who had become a prominent local fruit grower, later had the Whaley Packing House built between U.S. 1 and the Florida East Coast Railway in 1928.

Its location made it easy for trains to stop and pick up his goods, while also allowing access to delivery trucks.

After the Allied triumph in World War II, he added Victory to the name, and thus it became known as The Whaley Victory Groves Packing House.

I saw them tearing it down.
Kind of sad, but then again it was in really bad shape.

What a history.
