The Australian government agreed to a ridiculous setup where Australians have to do lots of work to pay tariffs.

This is a tidbit from a tiny Australian exporter who hasn't been able to find a US distributor, so has done lots of little shipments to US customers (very lightly edited for clarity):
"Australian Post has now suspended all shipment to the US, I had to do the same, because what I have been told and we have no idea how we will implement it, I have to show the import tariff at cart, and the US customer pay these import cost up front, we then have to collect, pay the tariffs to the USA body, provide receipt of payment even before we can book in and dispatch the order, basically doing Trump's work. We get a charge on top of the tariffs of USD1.69 per transaction, plus all out time documenting in an accounting system that doesn't accommodate other countries' taxes. My accountant said its going to add more admin tome our side, so we have to include it in the processing fees for each order, costing the US customer even more per order."
