...it looks like they may be in for a long year. USF and F$U looked pretty darned good and they were counted for wins. Texas looks beatable though. I think this is Napier's last year, maybe only partial year.

What about Miami Canes last night? Wow, beat Notre Dame.

UCF in rebuilding year may go 3-0 though before tough conference games.

USF beating Boise State and FSU beating Bama were fun games to watch.

I develop some kind of strange optimism for the gators. Last year I had them wining 4 and they got to 8. This year I see them winning 7. With some luck I hope to be as wrong as last year. Lagway looks good. Napier has enough years now to build the "culture" that he built at southeastern Louisiana. If he can't get a couple of surprise victories, or if he can't even get them bowl eligible, he will be out. The surprise this weekend was the noles. My sons were part of the storming of the field. That being said, they hired the failed UCF coach to be their offensive coordinator and Napier managed to lose everything he worked so hard for two years ago. FSU's schedule isn't great and it will be very interesting to see who wins that final game with UF. UF's strength of schedule AGAIN is the hardest in the country.

I'm currently watching Bellicheck get humbled by the frogs. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I had a slightly different take on Lagway. Again, I only watched the first half and he hasn't had a lot of time due to injuries, but it looked like his receivers were making some really good catches on some fairly off target passes. The RBs looked pretty good and he had time to throw, so kudos to the OL and the RBs, but they were up against guys that were considerably smaller than them. Time will tell, but I just don't think Napier is going to get any better. He needs an OC and he is too pig headed to hire one. That will be his undoing and, because the fix is his to make, he will deserve what he gets. Nice guy, good mentor, but limited HC. That is the history of UF football much more than the blip of the 90s. Yes, I still love Steve Spurrier. We will never have another like him.

And, except for the 90s, having been a Gator for 60 of my 70 years, I am eternally pessimistic.

Yes, TCU scored 41 unanswered points last night. Bellichek who? People should know who Sonny Dykes is more than him.

TCU was in the National Championship game in 2023. Not too long ago, but ESPN was all about Bellichek. Oops. they forgot to see that TCU is a pretty dern good football team with a better coach.

Yea for football season starting! Bellicheck has to come to UCF to play Sept 20th. that will be an interesting matchup. I think UCF will be favored. UNC looked like a total mess last night. Both O and D.

UCF has something to build upon until the UNC game. A FCS oppenent this weekend then a bye week before UNC. That is why I say UCF could start the season 3-0.

My loyalties are as follows -
1. Gators - my wife and I both grad'd from there and I have been a fan since 1966 (when SOS was the QB.) And, the 90s only cemented that.
2. USF - my son, with whom I watched all of the Gator glory in the 90s, went to USF and is a big fan, so, I've gotta go with them over UCF.
3. UCF - both my daughters went there and they are local, but I just can't get excited. I still root for them though (unless they are playing UF or USF)

This weekend is going to be hard with UF/USF. I will root for UF, but won't be too disappointed if USF wins. In fact, I may find myself happy. Time will tell. I don't think the Gators will win and, as a true fan, I never, EVER bet on them. I just don't think they are getting any better under Napier.

I miss spurriers absolute ruthless wit and lack of any loyalty to his players. You throw an interception, in comes the second string. No one was ever secure in their job there. It worked for him. I don't think it would work in the age of prima Donna portal. Every second string leaves to be a first string somewhere else.

Spurrier had tremendous loyalty to his players as people (well, maybe not Terry Dean), but he recognized that nobody had a lock on their job, even (shudder!) the QB. I liked that. He did not suffer prima donnas and believed that QB was no better or worse than a right tackle or a safety or anybody else. You perform or you get replaced.

There is a really good SOS impersonator out there with a CD titled "Not necessarily the head ball coach." . He nails him and his voice, cadence, etc. It is freaking hysterical because it is so spot on.

Re Terry Dean (cue Spurrier voice) - "I had Terry Dean in here the other day and I told him, "Terry, there is no I in team (pause) and now there is no U either." Terry Dean (and his dad) were prima donnas and Spurrier could not stand that (esp when you can't back it up). He had a bunch of high recruits but most left.

No way usf goes into the swamp and pulls an upset. You can relax on that one.

I suspect you are right, but never say never. USF looked strong, esp their QB, and the Gators, esp under Napier, are suspect. We have a history and the Spurrier dynasty was an aberration. As Dan Jenkins said, "Ah, Florida. The arrogance of Notre Dame and the tradition of Wake Forest." Appreciate the good years, but know what our history is.

It's the beginning of the fourth quarter. USF 15 gators 9. The gators haven't scored a touchdown that hasn't been called back yet. It's an ugly slog and USF keeps taking all the gifts the gators can't stop giving them. Penalties are killing tbem.

Napier is toast and, sorry to say, deservedly so.

My son, with whom I watched and loved the Gators of Steve Spurrier, is a USF alumnus and a big Bulls fan. I found myself rooting for the Bulls about halfway through the game. They should be ranked about 13 or 14, but we will be happy with 17 or 18. After many false starts since Jim Levitt, they are finally on the rise. Go Bulls.

The gator lineman that spit in the face of the bull and got kicked out of the game and put the bulls in a much better position echoed the famous shoe throw. This game was a gift to the bulls with penalties the whole game that killed every chance the gators had and squandered.

Penalties. That was the story.

Dave - I have been a Gator fan since the mid-60s and I have learned (thru experience) to never, EVER bet on the Gators. NEVER.

It was my last 5 bucks on the pot and was looking for a sure bet. It was unthinkable for me to think usf could pull an upset. I did watch their previous Boise State upset but I was thinking

The Gators lose in da swamp? No way.

Oh well...the house always wins.
