Yeah, I'm sure Titus and Chava would welcome folks from Florida with open arms and Knuckle Luau's.

I got to see Titus surf some 5 foot (Hawaiian) westside barrels. He was so at home and played in the ocean in gnarly conditions.

I got to meet and hang with Titus and his "crew" at Hanalei back in 2006. Mrs. Dingpatch and I were staying at Brewer's estate in Princeville. My life-long-friend, Pila, was in California at the time but when he found out I was going to be at Hanalei he told me to go say hi to Titus for him. Pila towed Titus at Peahi in the beginnings (he's in the book).

So, I surfed the outside break for a couple hours and then had to head in to go pick up the Mrs for a late lunch, etc.,, , , ,. Put the board in the Jeep and saw that Titus was down on the Northern end of the beach, right close to the river mouth. So, little white Haole me walked over that way. A few Very Large Hawaiians sort of blocked my path and asked me what my Haole ass was doing. They Did Not give me a very pleasant look when I told them that I wanted to say hi to Titus. They sort of came around when I told them that my good friend Pila told me to say hi. They "escorted" me into the thick of all the VERY LARGE Polynesians!!! I told Titus that Pila told me to be sure to say hi for him. Titus's ears perked up and asked how I knew Pila. We grew up together and learned to surf together in Florida, etc., , , , ,. Titus asked where I was staying and I told him at Dick Brewer's estate. That was it, I was totally OK and got to hang around a bit. Titus told me to not worry because I was now "his" friend and that all of his "brothers" would be sure to have my back if any of the "wanna be's" tried to hassle me! I was there the next day and did not hesitate to walk right up to, and through, the Polynesian gauntlet!!

Cool story Dingpatch.

Snuck over with the fam just before the inter-island quarantine resumed. We just did the sight seeing thing...no surf. Camped around the island, snorkeled, hiked waimea, saw some CFL friends, hit the McBryde Bot Garden, Queen's bath and some other killer spots.

Not really sure when the islands are going to open back up. Politicians here seem to think they can keep it out. Unfortunately, the reality is that the bug is firmly in the global population and unless you want vaccine, you will probably just have to go a couple rounds with it. We're firmly back into the March style lockdown. Restaurants, beaches, parks, etc. all closed. I recently got a citation for avoiding traffic with my little dude riding our bikes on the park bike path from a little shore pound beach where we were trying out his first real surfboard. Lady cop was very apologetic, but yeah...4 wheeler cops patrolling to make sure people are not sitting. Strange times when you have to afraid of getting a ticket in broad daylight with your family on the beach.

They closed the H3 in both directions two days this week to do surge testing and they're trying to ramp up contact tracing. I'm not convinced that will help much. I suppose they feel obligated to do something with hospitals nearing capacity for treatment resources. Sure everyone can agree no matter where you are, 2020's been a strange one.

So ding, do you have one of those real Brewer guns from before he got all cracked up?

Nope, no guns. He was working on something "special" in his private shaping room, and he would not let me see it. He was covered in balsa shavings a couple days. He would not say much about it but, I did "gather" that it was for a female to use to "paddle in" at some "place".

Last time on the Big Island I did get to see, and Clyde let me touch, one of Eddie's most famous Waimea Guns; Hobie, shaped by Dick.

Dick's "office":

The living room of our place there. Interestingly, I had posted some close-ups elsewhere in regard to Dick's signatures and was challenged that those were copies of Dick's boards!! LOL
