One thing is pretty evident, the Republican governor, Abbott, is doing a good job, unlike the La. dem governor. The lesson here is that if a disaster is going to happen in your state, hope like hell that you have a Republican governor.

Yet the Democrat mayor of Houston isn't?

Doubt it will be much if anything. Welfare spending could very well decrease given all the jobs that should come available.

Was thinking welfare in the form of federal flood insurance payouts, fema, etc.

Unfortunate that their poor city planning, lack of zoning, paving of floodplain etc will be supported by this federal welfare

Do they really have no building codes?

That can't be right. Nobody is that shortsighted.

That's not welfare. But, whatever. If it is welfare, you progs whole-heartedly supported it and made it possible. Don't know why you are crying about it now. If you want to end it going forward, vote Republican.

It is welfare. Just welfare for people with money, so they don't like it being called welfare. I just find it humorous that a state who's Representatives pride themselves on their Independence, self reliance, etc and are happy to provide minimal assistance to their poorest residents are so quick to hold their hand out for free money. I find it infuriating that they will get the moneyb which only encourages their terrible city planning and short sitedness.

I voted for Gary Johnson myself.

Yep if he would have won all problems would be solved. Seems most everyone on 2L voted for Johnson.

Hillary 100%. She would have been a great president.

The Johnson vote put Trump in the white house.

That's fine. I hold the opinion that disaster relief is a valid and worthwhile function of the Federal Gov't. But, I cannot say that I would be too upset if they ended that and all other welfare, as you put it. The amount I would save in taxes would more than compensate me for any additional risks.

Nothing rivals the city of New Orleans--build a city below sea level, surround it with a wall and dikes; then fill it with democrats--what could go wrong!

I wish the following insurance program worked to buy homes damaged in floods in highly flood prone areas. Force people to leave and buy in a logical location and return the area the natural habitat...or at least a permeable surface. Repaying people over and over to rebuild on flood plains is idiotic.
