Palin Mocked in 2008 for Warning Putin May Invade Ukraine if Obama Elected
by Tony Lee 28 Feb 2014

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin warned that if Senator Barack Obama were elected president, his "indecision" and "moral equivalence" may encourage Russia's Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.

Palin said then:

After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama's reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next.

For those comments, she was mocked by the high-brow Foreign Policy magazine and its editor Blake Hounshell, who now is one of the editors of Politico magazine.

In light of recent events in Ukraine and concerns that Russia is getting its troops ready to cross the border into the neighboring nation, nobody seems to be laughing at or dismissing those comments now.

Hounshell wrote then that Palin's comments were "strange" and "this is an extremely far-fetched scenario."

"And given how Russia has been able to unsettle Ukraine's pro-Western government without firing a shot, I don't see why violence would be necessary to bring Kiev to heel," Hounshell dismissively wrote.

Palin made her remarks on the stump after Obama's running mate Joe Biden warned Obama supporters to "gird your loins" if Obama is elected because international leaders may test or try to take advantage of him.

As she should be every time she opens her silly mouth.

Yep, she has some intelligence and foresight, unlike our pos president.

Btw, Putin isn't exactly quaking in his boots over the i-Clown's pathetic bluster about the Ukraine, is he? its embarrassing to have an international laughing stock as a president. A dog would have more respect.

Obama drew another RED line in the sand and said Russia better NOT cross it...

Isn't that the 2nd RED line that we know about???

If I was a leader of anyother country, I would tell Obama, QUIT trying to defend us, it is better that Obama ignores a country than it is for him to make that country a Russian target by saying that the US will defend it...

The second Obama said don't go there, Putin Laughed out loud, the Ukranians shit their pants, and the Democrats started back peddling...

It's worse to be his ally than it is to be his enemy....

Breaking News: Secretary of State Kerry warns Russia of grave consequences if they invade the Ukraine. Russia responds by invading the Ukraine.

Meanwhile, President Obama vows to support the Ukrainians.

"If you like your country, you can keep your country," the president said.

Yet another incredibly stupid claim by FK. Since FOX "News" apparently won't tell you why there's unrest in Ukraine and why Putin is sending in troops (it sure isn't because Obama is in the White House). It's actually quite simple, yet the righty propaganda machine (as usual) is striving mightily to blame Obama. Ukraine was on the cusp of signing a trade agreement with the European Union. President Yanukovych (Ukraine prez) squashed it. Western Ukrainians, who have closer ties to Europe and see EU trade as a lifeline went upside down, causing these riots. Eastern Ukrainians have much closer ties to mother Russia and the split is roughly 50-50 in a population of about 45 million people. Yeah, Putin is somewhat desperate to keep Ukraine in the fold, for reasons I really haven't fully researched, but you can be sure it's not because Obama became President. Maybe you conservo's should dig up the corpse of Ronald Reagan and shake it at Putin...that oughta do it!

Oh yeah...Sarah Palin that bastion of spot on-edness. What a joke she is, and what a nincompoop you are for believing an actual independent thought crosses that excuse for a brain.

That a woman who resigned the Governorship of the leading rape state in order to become a talking head would be hoisted up as a beacon of a movement shows the vapid nature of their cause.

Palin is an idiot (just ask McCain), but I like her and she makes a good reality TV show host.

As with nearly all of her political ciphering, she was wrong on her premise about this conflict having anything to do with Obama or even the USofA.  It has been stewing for a while and would have happened if McCain or even if the Great Oompa-Loompa Mitty was in office.

However, the US and the UK signed a security agreement with the Ukrainians in exchange for removal and de-mil'ing of all nuclear weapons, launch vehicles, and launchers.  This agreement is commonly called the Budapest Memorandum.  We, along with the UK, have commitments we may need to live up to.    Our military is already dog-tired and the nation is war-poor after the Forever Sandbox Wars GW pushed us into.   In this regard we are in a very serious position...but not for any of the reasons that Palin talked about in 2008.  She was just blowing smoke hoping to scare the already fearful GOP base into voting for McCain.
