I took out the quadcopter to the beach for the first time on. It was a little nerve racking. I dipped it out over the water a couple of times but I've decided to keep it over ground until there is some decent hurricane surf or something worth risking the rig for. Nobody was catching any waves really to pop out there for either anyway. Not bad for my first time. I figured out some things I can do to make more dynamic shots over the water with such a wide angle, but this also involves "balls." The gopro is hard mounted, no gimbal. I'll soon have a NEX5N with a gyro stabilized gimbal going on a hex pretty soon. The hex/dslr setup will maintain a level horizon, will be more pro. http://vimeo.com/42203303

Very cool!

If used sparingly this would make some really cool edits.

That's pretty good for no gimbal.

What's the flight time with that setup?

Pretty awesome!  I can see why you'd be a little hesitant to fly out over the water for very long.

Very awesome. Good to see the sony Nex is getting a good use. The new release is such a sweat camera with a great sensor. Assuming this is with the 16mm 2.8 lens?

That is so cool!  Maybe you could video tape the the reef at low tide so we will have a before and after to see how bad they mess things up?

Cool to see another RC enthusiast on here

Ive been thinking about a quadchopper for a future play toy. Ive started to get back into RC after a long hiatus from it. Right now I have a little Walkera CB1080 chopper to fly in the front yard and a Mini Air Edge 350 for aerobatics.

Ive been eyeballing various 6CH choppers to do cam setups on but lately Ive been seeing a lot of hype on the quads. Might have to start doing more research on them now after seeing your rig.

It is a DJI f550 Hexacopter with WKM Controller. The smaller rig is the F450 with Naza controller. CP helicopters are much more smooth for video. However they are very tricky to fly. multi-rotors are no walk in the park either really. I recommend lots of RC helicopter time before jumping into rigs like these. You'll put it down in no-time and maybe even hurt someone if you don't have the experience. I've been flying RC craft for about 8 years. You need to understand the electronics and how all the components work so you can troubleshoot issues. Learning RC helicopter flight is a never ending pit of money burning. If you fly micro craft, I'd recommend the Blade MQX quad. Master that thing on high rates with no expo and you'll be ok on a multi rotor rig like these, if you understand rc electronics and how to set them up.
