It was probably a meatball, but I like him and wish him well.
Certainly will be a ticket draw wherever he plays.

91 mph fastball from a 6'5" lefty pitcher who obviously didn't keep it out of the wheelhouse.

Now that the word is out, expect pitchers to toughen up, but at the instructional league level, mistakes just happen.

I think they're playing in Port St. Lucie. I might play hookey one day and go watch a game.

I got to watch Bo Jackson play some minor league ball in Orlando back in 1986.

Te is no Bo, but it would be fun to watch.

BTW, they've got him listed as an outfielder.

He's a huge fit dude. Maybe baseball will give him a new paycheck.

Get back to me when he is able to consistently hit a major league curveball.

If he's a lefty hitter facing majority RH pitching, he might not see too many curveballs.

It was a southpaw on the mound today that he took downtown, so it does speak well for his vision and reaction time.

In the majors though, he'd see a lot smarter pitchers with much better placement taking advantage of his inexperience and possibly messing with his head.

I always envisioned him more as a 1B/DH type player, and will be more impressed if he makes it as an outfielder than as a hitter.

Swinging at the first pitch is not usually considered "disciplined" for a pro hitter, but hitters don't often get benched for a HR. Like I said, smarter pitchers won't give him that.

Let's wait and see what happens the first time a catcher tries to block home plate.

He went 1/6........so lets not go bumping him up to the bigs just yet. I hope he does well though.

Baseball ain't as cool as football, but at least you get to enjoy your retirement.

And teaching technology isn't as cool as actually doing it, but at least you can sit back and be an internet smartass.

It's not about me.  That's the entire point of teaching.

By the way, I wasn't knocking Tebow. I was merely making a point that a career in pro baseball, while not as glamorous as football, leaves the player with a more comfortable retirement physically.  In other words, I wish him luck.

I always felt badly for Bo Jackson because football ruined two careers for him. And then there was Dion Sanders who played the World Series and Super Bowl within a year.  His broken foot (from the NFL) really messed him up.

He has a low bar, his popularity means that he only needs to be not embarrassing to be a ticket draw.

And baseball is way, way cooler than football.

.311 on base percentage is decent, I wonder why so many walks? His strike zone is huge.

Tim Tebow hits home run in second game after being promoted

Zach Pereles Big League Stew Jun 28, 2017, 8:08 PM

After spending time with the Columbia Fireflies, Tim Tebow homered in his second game with the St. Lucie Mets (AP)

The legend of Tim Tebow only continues to grow after the quarterback-turned-baseball-prospect smacked a two-run home run in the second inning of his second game with the Class A-Advanced St. Lucie Mets on Wednesday evening.

Tebow was promoted from the Class A Columbia Fireflies on Sunday night. Given Tebow's .220/.311/.336 slash line, the move came with some criticism, but according to early returns, the former University of Florida star has settled in quite nicely. He also had a single in the first game of the Wednesday doubleheader. Here's another angle of the bomb to straightaway centerfield:

The team's Twitter account captured his trip around the bases, and as you would expect, Tebow, batting seventh in the order, was all smiles.

With the home run, Tebow has now passed another famous multi-sport star for career four-baggers: Michael Jordan.

With Florida having just won the College World Series and Tebow smacking home runs after his promotion, it's been a good few days to be a Gator at the ballpark.

A minor league home run was the featured sports news this morning!

Good luck Tim, there are obviously a lot of people watching you and hoping you make it.

Exactly why he is there, cause it is not on the merits of his play.

He was not super skilled as a passer, so not good enough for the NFL.
He's being pushed quickly through the minors and will make the show with a far less impressive showing than most.
But he did launch a 92MPH fastball into the stands
And he is a great athlete, he does have a Heisman, he did some good stuff on the field for Denver.
He may surprise once he learns the game better.

But the why he is there is mostly Ticket Draw.

Tim Tebow exceeding expectations in high-A ball
Michael David Smith,ProFootball Talk on NBC Sports Fri, Jul 14 8:38 AM PDT

When Tim Tebow got a minor league promotion to the high-A St. Lucie Mets, the move was widely mocked as an attention grab by the Mets organization, putting the former football star in a higher class of baseball than his skills could justify. But so far, Tebow is proving the doubters wrong.

Tebow hit a walk-off home run to win Thursday night's game and has very respectable numbers so far in St. Lucie, with a .972 OPS, a .327 batting average, 10 RBIs and three home runs. He's currently on an 11-game hitting streak.

"So many guys played so well tonight," Tebow said after the game. "I just wanted to try and come through in the end and help win it for our team. I'm just thankful to get that opportunity. It was a lot of fun to celebrate with all the guys. We've been working to get a lot better, and I feel like over the last couple of weeks we've really been improving as a team, so it feels good."

Tebow is also, of course, a big success at the box office, where fans are buying up tickets and arriving early to watch him warm up.

Those business considerations may be the reason the Mets signed Tebow in the first place, but it's hard to argue with his results at the plate. Tebow will turn 30 in a month, and he hadn't played baseball since he was a teenager. Far from being a laughingstock, as so many thought he would be, Tebow is turning into an impressive minor leaguer.

After hitting .220/.311/.336 in 64 games at low-A Columbia, the 29-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner is batting .306/.390/.514 with the Mets heading into Thursday night's game against the Jupiter Hammerheads.

He's got a strong arm, and his football passing motion was almost a full baseball windup, so it seems he'd have potential on the mound, but I've read that he wants to hit.

A 6'3" lefty with a good pickoff move to first might find a role somewhere, if he can throw strikes.

He is still in A LEAGUE ball !!! Get back to me when he does something in The Show.

It is all about marketing. Not only is his team doing special promotions and charging Tebow Fanboy serious $$$$$ ...... so is practically every team he plays. He is a marketing dream and BB minors is all about the marketing.

I listened to a baseball guy and he described several of Tebow's technical fielding faults. From the description, I imagine Tim will be spending his time in the minors.
