I'm curious, didn't another company recently succeed at doing this or something similar? Edited: 12/20/2015 at 09:16 AM by Sector9surf |

Blue Origin did beat them to the perfect landing, but that was just a test flight.
This one is real, actually delivering satellites to space, then landing the first stage to use again. ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |

WOW, WOW, WOW!
Wish I could have been out there to see it land. I got to stand on the pad and watch the first Space Shuttle land back at KSC (Challenger) in 1984. It was something I had dreamt of since I was a little kid, with my father starting at The Cape when I was 3 in 1954. ------------------------- Dora Hates You |

Today's (Sunday 1/17/16) after launch attempt to land on the barge off California failed; landing leg failed to "lock" and the booster tipped over.

2/29 update: Why the launch was aborted
The problem began at about 6:45 p.m. ET when a boat strayed too close into the danger zone. The launch was temporarily halted to give the boater time to vacate.... was it... effKay??

It sounded and looked like it blew up from where I was in Cape Canaveral, but I now see they did it. Bob3000:I have a new dumb question for you! Does this mean that now they don't have to build any more new rockets...ever? Edited: 12/21/2015 at 07:28 PM by Sector9surf |

The "official word" is upper level winds.
I think they need a little more time to think about things, but that's unofficial, or maybe it is that assteroid (sic) But they were sending up weather balloons today, very early. ------------------------- Puerto Rico 11 - 24 - 2013 |

"Yo MaMas Big Assteroid 2013 TX68 will swing by at a distance of between 14 million kilometers (9 million miles) and 17,000 kilometers (11,000 miles) - which is lower than the orbit of geostationary satellites. It's pretty unlikely it'll hit anything in orbit as it sails by, though." - Risky, sure, but I have faith in Elon. B3K
