Just spoke with the head lifeguard at Jetty Park this morning, and he showed me a memo from the head of the beach safety. "No more surfing in the guarded area from 10am to 5pm" There will be some changes with the addition of buoys and they are told to enforce this new rule. It's not the fault of the lifeguards who are doing their job, but the higher ups are passing this new rule into effect immediately. Try and cooperate with them, because the liked it the way it was where they didn't have to anything except for save swimmers if needed.

How do you go about enforcing said rule?? Sounds like we may have to fight back against the county then.

Extra shipment of beaters headed to Ron Jon's and cbsc!!

Interestingly I never looked too closely at this product and I have been calling this company CatchIt since they started and only just know that they aren't even connected!? Talk about riding coattails marketing genius?!?

I looked it up just for fun: Sec. 78-112. - Water activity. No person shall swim, ski, dive, surf, scuba, fish or use boats in any area in any park, recreational facility, or department managed lands unless such area is specifically designated for such purpose. (Ord. No. 08-12, ยง 28, 4-22-08) Looks like they've got everything covered... https://library.municode.com/f...V2PEVIPRCO_S78-112WAAC

The problem there is not caused by the experienced surfers.
They control their boards and don't take chances surfing into the tourists along the shorepound.

But, there is a potential problem when you have clueless surfers who can't control their boards surf right on through a pack of clueless tourists who aren't paying attention.

Welcome to Kape Kanaveral
. Another popular law to enforce, after the popo is done with thong patrol duty.

You already aren't supposed to surf in the guarded area at all the other guarded county beach areas. Not sure why you'd want to anyway considering you have to dodge kids and old people in the water.

Not a county park. Jetty Park is managed by the Canaveral Port Authority - so ultimately, the commissioners could weigh in to adjust alter the rule. Guessing the decision was made at a lower level, but if it's a big concern to the surf community, could be elevated to commission level.

So has this rule been on the books and they're only now enforcing it, or is it a new regulation? Was it in response to some sort of incident or something? In my opinion, proximity to the jetty there isn't as important as it is at NSB or SBI, but nevertheless...and totally concur on kooks being the problem. I renewed my annual pass the day before this post!

Fall season will be here soon enough. Not so many visitors then. I don't understand the sudden crackdown. In the old days we used to just blow them off , and just go out and continue to ignore them. What are they gonna do arrest me?? I surfed with the guards several times in the past. Oops, shouldn't have said that..
