True soul surfer and my long-time surf buddy.

Sadly, Pete passed away on Christmas Day.
He was a pier regular and sometimes a regulator.
We also shared many fun sessions along PAFB beaks.

I've missed seeing him in the lineup these past several months and did not know he was ill. But, that's the way Pete wanted it. He never wanted to be a bother.
Miss you

Pete was a great guy! Classic as it gets. I've been wondering where he has been. I heard the news a few days ago. Sad to say the least. I'm going to miss seeing him!

So sorry to hear this news.  Hadn't seen Pete in several years, but surfed many a session with him and Jane back in the day at our local N Sat Beach break.  Always used to think he was a bit of grump towards me until I got to know him and learned otherwise...he was just a bit hard of hearing!  I do know that he was always stoked on surfing.  RIP Pete!  My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones and friends...

We did many sessions with Pete there at Perks, he was always on it. I always thought of him as a true true surfer. Pete had his old van, made many of his own boards, and never missed a good day. He really was living the life and I'm glad I got to know him and share so many good days of surf. RIP Pete.

Bummer. He was a surf rat. Always out.

Didn't he make his own boards also?

Man, Pete and Jane were the first neighbors I met when I first moved into my house in Sat Beach 15yrs ago. Pete was always trying to encourage me to surf floatier boards and then one day, he called me into his garage and gave me one of his older retro fishes that he shaped (9 South Surfboards?) and from that point on, I discovered the joy of riding a fun shape in small glassy surf. I know he was quite the vocal one at contests and sometimes in the line-up, when it would get crowded at Perkins, but he was a pleasure to talk to if you took to time to know him. Full of surfing knowledge... RIP Pete.

I was schooled and harassed at Perkins when it was Perkins by Pete :>. Once I got to know Pete he was a great soul and very fun to share the waves and stories with. I will miss him and the light he brought to the lineup. Rest in peace.

Way before it was N Sat Bch it was the Islander Hut, CB (aka Slater Way).
Great guy, always fun to surf with.
He used to keep me posted on how Jason doing.
Lost touch and regrettably had not surfed with him since 2007.

RIP Pete.

Pete was a cool dude with a cool van. I remember him surfiing with me all day one time at Perkins and him telling me how pissed his wife was going to be because he promised her he was going to do a bunch of house work, but he couldn't make himself get out of the ocean. LOL.

Yeah hurl, I was there too.  Rides to the jetties, the streets, the pier with Paul and Pete.  And Mitch too.  Pete was the first guy I saw eating granonla probably around '69 - '70 in his apartment in Cape Canaveral...I had no clue what granola was.  Would see him around campus at FTU.  Always a smile.  Always a good guy.  And a soul surfer, he was.

Rest in peace, my Brother.

Bummer. I enjoyed my time in and out of the water with Pete. I knew if it was even breaking at the Pier I would have someone to surf with.

Fare thee well Pete. May you find a constant stream of 'Pier Rights' in the sky....

First met "Petey" Barnes late 60's early 70's at the Ron Jon Surf Shop in Collage Park run by the one and only Paul Eaton. Used to give me rides to the beach when I was in high school. Ran across him driving by his house in Cocoa Beach say 10 years ago. He was in the front yard shaping a board. Always smiling. There's a big hole in the water.

This is not official, but a family spokesperson told me they already held a private ceremony.

If there was a paddle out forthcoming, that would be up to them.

Darn! Looking at the pier cam and wondering why are there so many goobers out on a flat day. Then I catch this thread. Didnt look yesterday and don't facebarf. Oh well, all the best to freinds and family that showed. Forgivness to us dummies who didn't.
