Hello all, I had someone at the Cocoa Beach Pier steal my surfboard today. After my heat I went to check the heat scores and when I came back it was gone. It is an all white PELI board shaped by Todd Holland. It had an aqua blue trak top on it. The board says that is was shaped for Chris (blank #251). It is a 5'9". I appreciate you keeping your eyes open for a while. The attached photo is the best one I've got. Thank you.

hard lesson tolearn but you can never leave anything unattended at the beach, so far I have had: flip flops stolen towel stolen surfboard stolen skatebaord stolen sun glasses and a raggaty shirt stolen coffee cup stolen
this is over a 15 year period at a very local break with 0 parking and a small trail for access. (surfboard was stolen out of my front yard)
If unattened, it will be gone.
sorry for your loss, life's tough learning lessons |

Have no idea the backstory, but i'll go out on a limb and say he'll get it back. 9 out of 10 of these threads turn out. Keep your eyes peeled but dont rush to judgement. if you have to steal, surfboards are not your best option. They always turn up.

I got my board back! Thank you all for keeping the search up. I cannot thank you enough for your concern and all your effort. The last I saw of the thief was him in back of a police car heading off to the station. |

The thief decided to go surf the pier! A great person was able to identify the board, confront him and call the police. When I arrived, I had Todd's blank number and board specs in my hand. I knew it was my board but wanted to show the police the information. When we looked at the board blank number we discovered that the thief had tried to scratch it out and, with a pen, attempted to put another number on it! The thief had also taken off my trak pad and replaced it with another and covered the top deck with neon orange wax (that should have been another felony charge). When I got home I took the trak pad off (and the wax!) and discovered that the thief had etched his initials on the deck underneath the trak pad. What was really weird was that he had poured what appeared to be pen ink into one of the fin boxes. It was dripping with the ink! I spent an hour cleaning it out and used half a bag of cotton balls trying to get the ink out. Every time I think about it I find myself shaking my head. Though I had a remorseless person (even when caught and put in the police car) steal my board, I was and am very greatful of all of you who shared a concern and took care to help me look for it. That was the first and only time I had ever left a board on the beach but I am more wise than before. Thank you all.

The miscreant probably saw the stolen board report on here so figured he could disguise it? Good eyes on whoever spotted it under the orange wax. Nothing like orange for a "don't look here" appearance. ------------------------- add a signature since I'm here in profile anyway |

Glad to hear you got it back, nobody likes a thief. I've heard the suggestion of putting owner info in the (Future) boxes so maybe he thought he was hiding something there?

It was a 15yo named Killian Winn from Merritt island. I was going to keep quiet about it but he was such a little puke I have to say something. I picked him and a friend up hitch hiking on the day the board was stolen and gave them a ride to the island. Killian told me about his new surfboard he found at the pier so I checked the forum for stolen surfboard alerts and sure enough it was posted later that night.
We gave the police the information and were waiting. In the mean time killian found my number and called to find out what i knew and gave me a fake name. I knew it was him so i told him to give the surfboard back to the owner and it would be fine.
He hung up but called back later asking for the owners number so he could return it. I connected them but he just tried to throw the owner off the trail again giving him a fake name and story.
Well yesterday I was in line at Publix and Killian came to the counter next to me and didn't recognize me.. I asked him about the board and I begged him to give the board back and keep the cops out of it but he wouldnt. I follows him outside and saw the board but he still wouldn't let it go. I told him how serious this was and that he didn't need a police record over it but he told me it was his and that I should call the cops. I had to follow him on foot for a few blocks while the police were on the way. He had tried changing the serial number on the blank with an ink pen, replaced the track pad, fins and leash . then he had the nerve to ask the police for his accessories back..... Arg....

That's awesome that you got it back. What a dumb piece of shit for surfing it at the same spot he stole it from.......but then again, if he was smarter he probably wouldn't have stolen it in the first place. Nice to see folks coming together to set it right.

I'm glad you got it back. To me, a surfer stealing a surfboard, is about as low as you can go.

That didn't take long. Nice work Monkey.
The juvenile delinquent's facebook has a pic of straight A's on his report card too. Clearly failing at common sense. SMH |

So now we all know there is yet another juvenile animal unable to exercise even a basic level of self-control and openly willing to impose negative circumstances on to others.
What to do, what to do? I recall back in the days of having horses there was a surefire 100% successful solution to young Stallions that were uncontrollable (snip, snip). I think it would translate across species and I know the perfect first test subject. But what of the other side of this issue, who is this Chris Z. Chris is a valuable member of the community, both in and out of the water. He is a highly skilled wave rider, excelling in powerful waves, an aggressive tube rider to be sure. Chris spent a number of his younger years protecting our freedoms performing military service in the U.S. Air Force (Thank you Chris). And while many of you are enjoying an all day session mid-week, he is at work, serving as a positive role model and molding young minds into productive members of society (means he is a teacher). He is also a good Father as evidenced by his polite, respectful, and well behaved Daughter, who is also a very skilled young Surfer. Little thief-boy needs to back up a few paces and work on emulating Chris's life path before he takes another step down the wrong turn he has chosen because that road only gets rougher and leads to a dead end. |
