Damn. I'm impressed. Not because he killed it but because he found a way to survive. ------------------------- "One of the reasons why propaganda tries to get you to hate government is because it's the one existing institution in which people can participate to some extent and constrain tyrannical unaccountable power." The man killed the animal by suffocating it, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Northeast Region. Exactly how he did so wasn't immediately clear.

Outside magazine did an investigation, and they think it's legit.
https://www.outsideonline.com/...e&utm_term=READ%20MORE I agree, it seems like a fantastic story, but given the age of the cougar, it does make sense. Difficult situation; I don't think he could have done anything else differently. ------------------------- [Feminism is] a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians. ~Pat Robertson Edited: 02/07/2019 at 07:54 AM by moody |

I am not saying it couldn't happen. I read another article that was connected below it
about the 2 that were attacked in Washington where 1 died and 1 got away. I will put my tin foil hat on for this one though. But it seems like people are just hush about it. For example, his non-life threaten injuries. I have been up close and personal with a lot of big cats. Their strength is amazing. Just trying to deal with a 5 lb house cat that does not want to cooperate. They wriggle and twist with claws slicing and grabbing anything in reach. Until you grab them by the scruff on their neck. Now put that in a big naturally wild cat. they say 20-60 lbs, call it 40 for arguments sake. Now those claws have a ton of strength behind all that wriggling and twisting. Whether using your legs or arms or both around that animals throat, the hind legs would be SHREDDING whatever would be holding it. And the description of the guy being "in shape" is pretty vague too. But it is Colorado that does have an active population. In shape could long distance runner in shape, navy seal in shape, body builder size in shape. It mentioned he picked up some rocks and did not go any further in the details about it. Maybe he got a lucky shot on its skull and then choked it. I am definitely intrigued to hear more about it though. Edited: 02/07/2019 at 10:32 AM by 2nd Light Forums Moderator |

It's definitely an interesting story. A friend's daughter lives in that area - the trail has been closed again due to lion activity.
I'm thinking the rock did a lot of the work, personally. I once drop-kicked a dog that came out of its fence and was going after my small dog - it was a really lucky shot, and I couldn't do it again if I tried, but my adrenaline was pumping and I got in a really good hit to his jaw, and spun him over and knocked him out. He eventually got up, but it took him a little bit and we had time to get down the road. He ran back home and I called animal control. The owner denied his dogs were out, and animal control asked to see his security camera footage from his driveway - the whole thing was caught on tape! ------------------------- [Feminism is] a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians. ~Pat Robertson Edited: 02/07/2019 at 12:11 PM by moody |

It's an astonishing story. Foot on neck was a very, very good move.
I did know someone who fended of a quite large alligator (he moved to Wyoming) and someone else who did not survive a very odd encounter with a grizzly bear.

Once, out in Yosemity, I put a bear in a sleeper hold and made a quick getaway right after. Lucky for me the sun was in it's eyes when it woke up - as i bolted away at lightning speed. I'm not sure I could re-create that situation today tho.

I heard the lion was a baby, and he stood on it's throat. RiddleMe, I've fought my share of dogs camping in Costa Rica.

I never had to fight a Costa dog but one had me running to the water as fast as I could.
It only wanted me, left everybody else alone????

That's why the first thing I try to find is a good dog beating stick, and some mota. I was in Cedros and was invited to dinner at a house at the edge of Cabo Blanco reserve. We neglected to bring light for the walk back, which was almost to cedros. Father Tom had a pen light he lent us. There were oasis' of light every 200 meters. there was alots of brush rustling and growling in the dark. My worry was Fer Du Lanc/Terciopelos, and Mata Buey. All of a sudden a German shepherd appeared and escorted us to our habitacion. We'd get to some light and he'd look up us and shake its head.
