I finally got my palmetto removal project completed. I ended up doing it myself because I had a hard time finding anyone to help that didn't want to charge an arm and a leg. Plus, most people I spoke to just wanted to cut them down and not get up the roots. I got MOST of the roots. For the few stumps that I couldn't get out, I drilled 5/8" holes in them and filled them with full strength roundup so I'm hoping that will do the job. I gave myself about 10 more feet of garden space so I can add more hummingbird plants.

It definitely was NOT. It helped that it was in the shade most of the time. Somebody on here suggested that I use a sawzall and that worked great. Much easier to handle than the chainsaw.

"I doused my earth with herbicide. I can't wait to plant stuff that will attract hummingbirds and pollinators."

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The stumps would almost certainly not have regrown.  Palms need their growing tips.

Thanks for the info, ww. And for the reminder, Karma. I hate to use chemicals but I thought by drilling holes and pouring it right into the palmettos, it would be less likely to affect anything around it. But obviously it made the noses fall off of all of the humans in your cartoon. LOL.

Seriously, I really try to do my best to protect the environment so if this is a bad practice, I'll refrain from doing it next time.
