I had to break out and water some plants this weekend. First time in a long time. I don't have a sprinkler system but with the record rain I didn't water the whole winter. That looks to have changed now with the dryness the past week. Maybe some good rain this upcoming weekend (I hope). My Rye grass is barely hanging on with the dryness. Had to water it some this past weekend.

I wish for enough rain to wash all the pine pollen off everything.

I guess we might as well write off any rain any time soon. They promised my 80 percent last weekend, but only got one drop on my head. It is super dry conditions. Make sure you keep the tropical ornamentals moist.

And, with the temps in the mid-80s, the majority of the rye is dead. Mid-march is about the time rye kicks the bucket. even with watering. Oh well, probably the best as I have a carpet of dropped oak leaf now. Definitely a change of seasons taking place now.

Yeah, pine pollen all washed away, 2.5" in the rain gauge at 3:30PM Sat.
Still clutter showing on the radar heading this way.

3 inches of rain overnight! More rain in the forecast for this Friday and the weekend. I guess we just went through a little mini-dry season.

Maybe the child will hang around a little to keep our spring a little more moist than usual.

Is this rain going to mess up our mango season? Doesn't moisture encourage anthracnose and the like, leading to flowers aborting?

April typically starts our dry season. April/May driest months on record for us.

April 1 report:
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL
638 PM EDT FRI APR 1 2016

...MARCH 2016 WAS MUCH WARMER THAN NORMAL...

ONLY A FEW COLD FRONTS MADE IT THROUGH CENTRAL FLORIDA DURING THE
MONTH AND A MAJORITY OF THESE BOUNDARIES WERE VERY WEAK. THIS
ALLOWED MARCH TO END UP MUCH WARMER THAN NORMAL ACROSS THE REGION.
DRIER CONDITIONS GENERALLY DOMINATED BEFORE A MORE ACTIVE WEATHER
PATTERN LATER IN MARCH LED TO AN INCREASE IN SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS. EVEN WITH THIS LATE BOOST IN RAINFALL...MUCH OF THE
AREA STILL EXPERIENCED BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH. THE
EXCEPTION WAS ACROSS ORANGE...NORTHERN OSCEOLA...NORTHERN BREVARD
AND SAINT LUCIE COUNTIES WHERE HEAVIER RAINFALL OCCURRED AT TIMES
WITH SLOW MOVING STORMS...GENERATING WETTER CONDITIONS IN THESE
AREAS.

.TEMPERATURES...

AFTER A WARM START TO MARCH WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW 80S...A WEAK COLD
FRONT MOVED THROUGH ON THE 4TH WITH TEMPERATURES FALLING CLOSER TO
NORMAL FOR A COUPLE DAYS. A STRONG AND PERSISTENT HIGH PRESSURE
RIDGE THEN BUILT IN ALOFT...BLOCKING ANY ADDITIONAL FRONTAL PASSAGES
AND ALLOWING HIGHS TO REACH THE MID TO UPPER 80S (UP TO 10-15
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL) FOR SEVERAL DAYS THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE
MONTH. OVERNIGHT LOWS ALSO REMAINED QUITE MILD THROUGH THIS
TIME FRAME...GENERALLY IN THE MID TO UPPER 60S. A STRONG COLD FRONT
MOVED THROUGH ON THE 20TH AND PRODUCED THE ONLY SIGNIFICANT SPELL OF
COOLER THAN NORMAL WEATHER THIS MONTH...WITH HIGHS ON THE 21ST IN
THE MID 60S TO LOW 70S AND LOWS FALLING INTO THE 40S AND LOW 50S FOR
A FEW DAYS FOLLOWING. A WARM AND MOIST SOUTHERLY FLOW THEN DEVELOPED
AND ALLOWED TEMPERATURES TO REMAIN ABOVE NORMAL THROUGH THE REST OF
MARCH.

MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURES RANGED BETWEEN 4 TO 6 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL AND RANKED THIS MARCH IN THE TOP TEN WARMEST AT ALL PRIMARY
CLIMATE SITES...WITH A MAJORITY OF THESE IN THE TOP 5 WARMEST!
ANOTHER INTERESTING FACT TO MENTION IS THAT THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
VALUES FOR THIS MONTH AT DAYTONA BEACH...MELBOURNE AND VERO BEACH
ALL RANKED JUST BELOW THEIR RESPECTIVE VALUES SET IN MARCH 2015
WHICH WAS ALSO A VERY WARM START TO THE SPRING.

DAILY RECORD TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH:

DAYTONA BEACH:
-MARCH 14TH: TIED RECORD HIGH OF 89 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1985. ALSO
SET RECORD WARM LOW OF 69 DEGREES. PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 66 DEGREES
LAST SET IN 1997.
-MARCH 15TH: TIED RECORD HIGH OF 89 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1971.
-MARCH 27TH: TIED RECORD WARM LOW OF 71 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1994.

ORLANDO:
-MARCH 14TH: RECORD WARM LOW OF 69 DEGREES. PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 68
DEGREES LAST SET IN 2015.
-MARCH 27TH: TIED RECORD WARM LOW OF 72 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1928.

MELBOURNE:
-MARCH 10TH: TIED RECORD WARM LOW OF 70 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1964.
-MARCH 12TH: TIED RECORD WARM LOW OF 70 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1962.
-MARCH 27TH: RECORD WARM LOW OF 74 DEGREES. PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 71
DEGREES LAST SET IN 2007. THIS ALSO TIED THE RECORD WARMEST MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH AT THIS SITE.
-MARCH 28TH: TIED RECORD WARM LOW OF 73 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1994.

VERO BEACH:
-MARCH 10TH: TIED RECORD WARM LOW OF 70 DEGREES LAST SET IN 2015.
-MARCH 12TH: TIED RECORD WARM LOW OF 70 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1963.
-MARCH 27TH: RECORD WARM LOW OF 74 DEGREES. PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 73
DEGREES LAST SET IN 2005.

AVERAGE TEMPERATURE VALUES FOR MARCH 2016 AT THE FOUR PRIMARY
CLIMATE SITES ACROSS EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA ARE AS FOLLOWS (RANKINGS
PROVIDED IF IN THE TOP 10):

-DAYTONA BEACH HAD A MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 69.3 DEGREES
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 5.0 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE
4TH WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD FOR THIS SITE...TYING 2003.

-ORLANDO HAD A MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 71.2 DEGREES
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 4.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE
10TH WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD FOR THIS SITE.

-MELBOURNE HAD A MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 71.8 DEGREES
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 5.9 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE
4TH WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD FOR THIS SITE.

-VERO BEACH HAD A MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 72.0 DEGREES
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 4.6 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE
5TH WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD FOR THIS SITE.

.RAINFALL...

A VERY DRY PATTERN PERSISTED FROM EARLY TO MID MARCH AS A BLOCKING
RIDGE DEVELOPED AND KEPT FRONTS FROM MOVING INTO THE AREA. ANY
RAINFALL WAS LIGHT AND LIMITED THROUGH THIS PERIOD. WIDESPREAD
SHOWERS AND STORMS THEN MOVED ACROSS CENTRAL FLORIDA ON THE 19TH
AHEAD OF A STRONGER COLD FRONT WITH THE MAJORITY OF RAINFALL FROM
THIS ACTIVITY FALLING SOUTH OF ORLANDO. ANOTHER FRONT MOVED INTO THE
SOUTHEAST U.S. LATE IN MARCH AND STALLED NORTH OF THE AREA. A MORE
UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN FOLLOWED WITH AN INCREASE IN SHOWERS AND
STRONGER STORMS FROM THE 24TH THROUGH THE END OF THE MONTH. SLOWER
MOVING STORMS DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS OF THE
24TH PRODUCED HEAVIER RAINFALL AMOUNTS UP TO 3 TO 5 INCHES FROM
ORANGE AND NORTHERN OSCEOLA COUNTIES EASTWARD INTO NORTHERN BREVARD
COUNTY. ADDITIONAL HEAVIER RAINFALL OCCURRED ACROSS ST. LUCIE COUNTY
ON THE 25TH AND 29TH.

THESE AREAS WHERE ABUNDANT PRECIPITATION FELL ENDED UP WITH TOTALS
THAT WERE AROUND 1 TO 2 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH. HOWEVER
MUCH OF THE REST OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA WAS DRIER THAN NORMAL FOR
MARCH WITH RAINFALL DEFICITS AROUND 1 TO 2 INCHES.

MARCH 2016 RAINFALL TOTALS FOR THE FOUR PRIMARY CLIMATE SITES ACROSS
EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA ARE AS FOLLOWS (RANKINGS PROVIDED IF IN THE TOP
10):

-DAYTONA BEACH RECEIVED 1.43 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH WAS
2.81 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

-ORLANDO RECEIVED 5.31 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH WAS 1.54
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

-MELBOURNE RECEIVED 3.08 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH WAS
0.20 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

-VERO BEACH RECEIVED 2.86 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH WAS
1.26 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

Vero's getting caught up on rain.  This afternoon's total at the airport was minimal, but elsewhere looks soaked.

Friday, I scurried around the yard, plopping palm, cycad, and grass fertilizer.  The rain was staying just south of us.  Sounded like Ft. Pierce was getting pounded.

Clear early last night, fireworks, or at least lots of explosions, at Dodgertown.  Around 2 am, lots of rain.  It's up to about an inch now.

End to the brief drought? Looks like plenty of rain to come. This one is going to make stuff Spring into action!

Yes, yeah for rain. It has been awhile. 4/15 listed above was last time for rain. Today I'm sure I got at least an inch.

Any rain in May, especially early May is great!

I had just used the last of my captured rain water in my pond yesterday. So the timing is really good for me.

Yes, this rain should be the one that kicks everything off- been going nonstop all day at my place and it just got done coming down heavy the past 30 minutes.

Just wish I had found the time to put down some granular on a few things..
