A good friend recently asked me: "If you could only plant two mango trees what would you choose?" I told him my favorites and reasons why, plus the favorites of a couple other friends.
My choices: 1. Malika - My main reason is that I have had the most production success with this tree, it is a delicious and beautiful fruit. 2. Rosigold - Again, I have had good fruit production and the fruit is delicious and may be the most beautiful looking fruit I've seen. 3. Keit - The fruit get so freaking big, it is fun to watch it grow and grow and grow, hanging on the tree for so freaking long. It's a freak! My list is ten to twelve long, but I'm keeping it brief here, want to know your three absolute favorites you would plant if you could only grow three. Cheers! |

2) Kent persistent, best tasting, large midseason. 3) Rosigold small early, prolific |

Malika is also a really good one and has been a consistent producer. It should probably replace the Glenn in my top 3 list. They say you have to pick Malika mature green and then ripen them in a box in the garage. Ive picked them straight from the tree too but normally try and follow the expert's advice.

Gold Nugget -- not only a taste that says "there are Mangos - and then there are Gold Nuggets" but, when the tree ripens its fruit, harvesting the fruit, peeling for freezing - nothing stains the hands orange like a Gold Nugget.
Okrung Tung -- unique taste; clustering Rosigold -- reliable, great flavor and not too fussy with mold, mildew or blight. |

Picking Mallika early minimizes losses to tree rats, and you get great fruit quality, a really nice deal that makes them good handouts (with paper bags) to friends. |

fyi, my rosigold bloomed three times this year. Once in the spring, then late summer. It held fruit until Hurricane Matthew blew them all off. I was thinking I was going to get off season mango from it. I looked yesterday and it is in full bloom again!
My Glenn super produced for me again this year. It is consistent and taste great. |

Central Floridave - My Tebow and Haden are both blooming right now. Is this setting me up for a low mango haul in the spring/summer?

Mango typically bloom December to March. If we don't have a freeze that knocks off the blooms then they will set fruit. If the flowers do abort this early, then there is a good chance the tree will have a 2nd bloom.

My three favorite mango trees are the guys on the other side of my back fence. He says I can keep any that grow on my side. My Mom has a great one that she can't reach any more and we get most of the mangos from that tree. My brother in law has a huge mango tree that we get bushels of mangos from every year...
Don't know the varietys... but those are my three favorite anyways... ------------------------- |

fyi, I ate a delicious rosigold off my tree yesterday. I was out cleaning my pool and looked up and noticed a couple ripe fruit. It was great. Eating mango in december is very rare!

Awesome Dave! I wish I had some on a tree. My Nam Doc Mai is the only tree in bloom so far.
Ten varieties of mango trees, I thought a few others would be pushing out by now. But, soon, I'm sure, they will be blooming and I'll be cussing at wet foggy mornings to go away. |
