You mean it wouldn't take a good guy with a stick to stop that?

If the recess monitor had a stick, then this wouldn't happen in the first place.

Just a suggestion:
teach your kids effective self defense techniques. Take the damn stick away, apply a thumb grab or arm bar, maybe a sweep. In the nicest possible way alert a teacher.
And suggest to your classmate: best not do that again friend.
Just sayin....
of course, that doesnt seem to work so well with an insane right wing nutcase nra sponsored gun kook does it......
The red flag, gun violence restraining order reasonable proposal by the very conservative folks at the National Review might hopefully be a starting point?

No no no! ALL the kids need sticks. Concealed sticks, high capacity, multi-branched oak limbs, the right to have a 2x4 in class. Of course, Louisville Sluggers are sticks too. They're used for sports.

MORE sticks means LESS stick-related violence.

As a side note, the teacher gets a popsicle stick that she is expected to use to stop the kids with 2x4's, in addition to teaching them how to read, do math, and be civil, all for the salary of a garbage man.

I really can't see how this plan isn't pure genius.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Nukes don't kill people, people kill people.

Then give ISIS the Bomb.

It would be hard to argue that this nation isn't becoming more and more lawless and increasingly hateful toward its fellow man. So let me add to this analogy.

Taking the stick away may reslove the immediate conflict problem.  But it does not address why the child was hostile in the first place.  It does not prevent him from going and getting a bigger sharper and more dangerous stick.  And even if you could somehow take all the sticks away, what would keep him from getting a stone, a match or an axe?

I contentd the very root of the issue today is the nation's decaying moral values and that is only manifested by the gun violence.  Beyond submitting to oppressive tyranny, restoring the moral values and the very fiber that made this a once great nation is the only effective solution.  And starting to argue which political view holds the high moral ground is not the right way to start, although most will try.

We didn't used to be so heavily armed with weapons of war in the hands of civilians.

The point is, the stick is being used irresponsibly. When that happens, you take it away

We didn't used to be so heavily armed with weapons of war in the hands of civilians.

Everybody was armed during the American Revolution and we beat Great Britian???

Yet when WW1 started we didn't have enough weapons to fight back and no way to produce enough weapons to win that war. It took years to produce enough arms and weapons to win that fight.

After WW1 every country disarmed, war had become so horrible that no country would ever go to war again...

Yet Hitler started another war and it took YEARS to build up enough weapons to fight that war and millions of lives were lost because nobody had the weapons to stop the bad guys.

We as a country decided to NOT get caught sleeping again. We kept or arms and armies, it is far better to be the biggest baddest country in the world than to not be able to defend ourselves.

This is the American mind set and rightly so, we still have despots and madmen and whole mind sets that can destroy our way of life. better to be armed, prepared and ready to defend ourselves.

NOW, shrink those sentiments down to my neighborhood and my house...

It is far better to be able to defend myself than to have a stronger person, an insane person or some person with a destructive mindset be able to kill me or my family with no immediate consequences.

The armed guard at the school who didn't do anything? If there were 4 or 5 armed people at the school maybe one of them would have acted and stopped the carnage.

The PE teacher, we will never know what the outcome would have been had he been armed, all we do know is the outcome when he wasn't armed..

obx2: Then why do you blame the gun?

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Jeez whining and crying about the decay of society?  That is what your parents did.

From Zoos:  "It would be hard to argue that this nation isn't becoming more and more lawless and increasingly hateful toward its fellow man. So let me add to this analogy. "

Uh no it is not hard to argue.  There are things called statistics:  http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/01/30/5-facts-about-crime-in-the-u-s/

But I know the GOP squad find math and changes in their racist, misogyinistic social fabric hard to comprehend.

Certainly they are not suggesting that teachers living paycheck to paycheck, armed with handguns, are expected to engage an assault rifle wielding nutter?

(Assault rifle=autoloading centerfire rifle with high capacity magazine)

Of course if a teacher wanted to be able to have their own firearm on their person, I wouldn't object, but if that's the whole plan to deal with school shootings, it's a pretty shitty plan.

Get rid of the assault rifle, and armed coach vs. handgun shooter seems more like a fair fight.

Well lets compromise...

1st ban assault rifles from school zones and from large cities like Chicago.

Then if that proves effective at stopping shootings we expand the ban to other areas like malls and las vegas plazas..

BUT, if banning assault rifles at schools and in large cities prove ineffective then lets try the other tack and better arm the citizenry...
