San Francisco has a reputation as one of the prettiest cities in the world, but a survey of more than 150 downtown blocks has revealed streets covered with garbage, human excrement and hypodermic needles across the liberal city. In all, the survey by NBC Bay Area took in 153 blocks -- an area that includes City Hall and several schools. "The investigation revealed trash littered across every block," the station reported. "The survey also found 41 blocks dotted with needles and 96 blocks sullied with piles of feces." FLASHBACK: SAN FRANCISCO GRAPPLES WITH CRIME, BLIGHT AFTER YEARS OF LIBERAL POLICIES The survey results led a University of California, Berkeley infectious disease expert to compare downtown San Francisco to slums in developing countries. "The contamination is … much greater than communities in Brazil or Kenya or India," Dr. Lee Riley told the station. Riley added that discarded needles could cause HIV and Hepatitis B and C, while dried feces can cause potentially dangerous viruses. ------------------------- Romans 8;18-32 John 3;16-18 |

We have a little time to figure it out, but eventually some form of minimum basic income and minimal socialism is going to be required not just in this country, but every country.

Brick and mortar will be gone in 20 years and the jobs associated with them will be gone too; salespeople, supply chains and support businesses will no longer exist. Add in robot manufacturing and Mike is 100% correct.

Mike, I may have to reconsider my opinion of you. ------------------------- “It is the heart of US policy to use fascism to preserve capitalism while claiming to be saving democracy from communism “ - Michael Parenti |

Maybe just some more public toilets and more needle recycling bins is all it would take to clean that liberal cess pool up. |

How about Paisely, FL. Much of eastern TN and KY and most of WVA? Massive swaths of Mississippi delta. Fucking shitholes. Why don't you grouse about those? ------------------------- ... |

It worked so well in Venexuela! Sadly whether it had worked or not in the past is completely irrelevant. It simply is not going to be a choice, but a necessity. We had better begin figuring out how to make it work. The first wave is nearly upon us as jobs in pretty much the entire transportation and shipping industry are going to collapse. |

One thing that we have to get our head around is that through automation we have the productive capacity to essentially meet everyone's needs.
Once upon a time, it seemed that through automation and increased productivity, people would work less (shorted workday/week). But that's not the case, instead, we have unemployment while those who are working are required to produce what once took multiple employees. At some point the surplus value of automation needs to be distributed to the community. Otherwise we have "late stage" capitalism with extreme concentration of wealth and a growing underclass of underemployed workers who can't afford housing, nutrition, education. A lot of collectivist ideas are gaining hold with the youth, and some of it is not as far out as one might expect. I thought UBI was crazy when I first heard of it, but I'm coming around. ------------------------- “It is the heart of US policy to use fascism to preserve capitalism while claiming to be saving democracy from communism “ - Michael Parenti |

This is a very interesting long-read article that I'd encourage everyone to check out.

There's a funny thing the kids have memes for - Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism. It's a satire of Fully Automated Luxury Communism, which is basically the idea that with automation and advanced productivity, every worker in our community should be able to live a live of relative luxury (with full gender freedom and some tech stuff too).
Modern Communism isn't just full employment and wealth distribution, it means being liberated from the alienation of wage slavery so you can "become yourself" and fully realize your potential. What happens when the free market is no longer able to support enough employment opportunities for a population to work and feed themselves? It is coming, so we need to figure out how to deal with it.

Capitalism is broken, and if left as it is, will inevitably lead to even more extreme inequality which is unsustainable.
