We could see who does better. It also be interesting to see the immigration/emigration in and out of California before it became official.

I don't think it will. Big money won't let it happen. It'd mess up the economy. California holds more than 13 percent of the economy. All the liberals would flock there then their percentage would grow exponentially. The rest of the US would be in shambles. Cali would be one crowded ass place.

The scholarly consensus is that it was primarily slavery, especially the issue of expansion of slavery into new states. Secession was triggered by Lincoln's election despite his relatively compromising stance. (I almost typed Sesessions, LOL).

Then you know the North had Slaves, and the war was not stared because of Slavery, specficaly.

Slavery was only stopped as a further means of weaking the South, and had nothing to do with the North being compassionate, and the South being bigots. And the slaves once freed, didn't want to be free, their lives were so much better as slaves many wished to be slaves again right? YAWN

I'm not sure where obsII is going with this.  Lincoln did his best to preserve the Union during a very troubling time and came to his senses (the south would not acquiesce and declared all slaves free.  The South assuredly seceded in part because they saw that slavery was in trouble and that would effect their prime economic driver.

From Jefferson Davis the PRESIDENT of the south in Congress:

"We recognize the fact of the inferiority stamped upon that race of men by the Creator, and from the cradle to the grave, our Government, as a civil institution, marks that inferiority."

Another doozy:

"We recognize the negro as God and God's Book and God's Laws, in nature, tell us to recognize him. Our inferior, fitted expressly for servitude."
