Well he could be married to someone working for a big employer like GE, Harris, County or State...

He could be retired from something that lets him be on USAA.

But, at his age I hope that he is buying and individual policy irrespective of from whom. Then I really hope that the bill that Congress ultimately passes does require insurance companies to cover "pre-existing conditions" but also repeals the individual mandate. He seems blissfully unaware that under regular market conditions men his age are uninsurable in an individual market except at exceedingly high premiums. The only way that people his age afford insurance/healthcare is in huge group plans where the young healthy employees subsidize all the old and sick members of the pool.

I'm in a huge group plan. My staff assistant technically makes more money than I based on the amount of health services that she and her family use every year.

I will love to see what happens to people his age on the individual market if the current congress bills pass.
