Anti-gun Missouri Dem. arrested with 9mm pistol, refuses breathalyzer test

Anti-gun Democrat Jamilah Nasheed arrested with 9mm handgun, ammo.

Earlier this week, Missouri state Senator Jamilah Nasheed, a Democrat who has sponsored several anti-gun bills, was arrested while protesting in front of the Ferguson Police Department, The Blaze reported Tuesday. What made the arrest interesting is that Nasheed was carrying a 9mm handgun with extra ammunition.

Authorities also said Nasheed "smelled strongly of intoxicants." But Nasheed refused to take a breathalyzer test and maintains she was not intoxicated.

"Sen. Nasheed, along with another male, entered the street, were told numerous times by not only by the St. Louis County commander, but other officers on scene, that they needed to leave the street or they were subject to arrest," said St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman. "They failed to comply, and they were taken into custody."

The arrest was conducted without incident, CBS St. Louis said. Nasheed, however, chanted as she was taken away. On Tuesday, Nasheed said hers was a "symbolic arrest" to send a "message to the protesters that we can protest peacefully and that we must protest peacefully and that we want justice for Michael Brown."

But her arrest and news that she was in possession of a firearm brought charges of hypocrisy. According to attorney Eric Vickers, Nasheed needs the gun for her own protection and Nasheed says she holds a concealed carry permit. But if Nasheed had her way, other Missourians would not have the same right.

One bill she pushed, for example, would have required the "parent or guardian of a child who attends a public, private, or charter school shall notify, in writing, the superintendent of the school district, or the governing body of a private school or charter school, that such parent or guardian owns a firearm within thirty calendar days" of enrollment. The NRA has also dubbed several of her bills as "anti-gun," and a post at Guns Save Lives said Nasheed has voted against several pro-gun bills over the last two years.

You paint a compelling picture but there's some detail missing.

I do have a question.

You claim here that if she had her way other people would not have the right to carry a concealed carry permit.

So then you reference her anti-gun bills, specifically that school notification bill mentioned above in the quoted material.  Can you point to her supporting a bill to prohibit concealed carry?

If she opposes concealed carry as you state then why doesn't the article specifically reference an effort by her to ban concealed carry?

I think her bill requiring parents to notify schools of gun possession is unacceptibly intrusive, butt, that is not the same thing as her wanting to prohibit concealed-carry which you say she supports.  If such a bill exists why is it not specifically referenced to firm up this accusation of hypocrisy?

Oh, I have the answer.

http://www.examiner.com/article/anti-gun-missouri-dem-arrested-with-9mm-pistol-refuses-breathalyzer-test

Your source is examiner.com

http://www.examiner.com/article/chemtrails-are-not-a-conspiracy-theory

I guess that explains why the article says she wants to stop other Missourians from being about to carry conceals but then fails to point to any attempt by her to pass laws to that effect.

These are good points. She's only a hypocrite if she failed to inform her children's school about her having weapons.

And I don't trust any cop to be truthful about smelling anything. That being said, it's a shame that black lives only matter to the black community when a white person takes one. Given that Wilson worked in a 90% black area for 6 years with a spotless record, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt about being a racist KKK member itching for a reason to kill a young black man without provacation.

If you haven't noticed, progs only intend their laws to apply to us unenlightened ones. The laws they seek are not meant to apply to them because, in their eyes, they are better than us. We cannot be trusted with freedom, only they can be.

"Police resources should be focused on finding the real criminals responsible, not further victimizing those who have had not only their belongings stolen, but their sense of security and privacy as well," the NRA said in its written statement.

The association said it has opposed similar legislation nationally for years. By requiring gun owners to tell police when firearms are missing, it "seeks to create a de-facto gun owner registry," the NRA said.

The association cited an amendment approved Tuesday night to the bill that would require gun owners to report a stolen firearm within 72 hours of learning about the theft.

Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, sponsored the provisions, which was added to the bill by a voice vote of the Republican-led Senate. The Senate then gave first-round approval to the measure Tuesday night, but it needs one more vote before moving to the House.

"Sometimes, the NRA, they go to extremes," Nasheed said. "This way we know how many stolen guns are out on the street for the law enforcement officers."

The NRA has not weighed in on Missouri's attempt to nullify federal gun control laws, but broke its silence after the reporting provision was added to the bill.

The organization said Nasheed's amendment would penalize gun owners for failing to report a stolen firearm with up to a year in prison or a $1,000 fine. While that punishment is not part of Nasheed's amendment, it is the penalty proscribed by the bill for federal agents who knowingly attempt to enforce federal laws the state considers to be infringements on gun owners."

How is someone being arrested for trespassing upon public property, to wit, a public street. Furthermore, arresting a protester for trespassing after warning (on a public street) violates that Constitution you think of as technicality when anyone other than FOX news or Rush Limbaugh refers to it. Lastly, she was not charged with a crime because she has a permit, which means the only reason it was mentioned was because this particular news source sought to discredit a law abiding citizen in public place who was breaking no laws. Oh the humanity.
