"Quality . . . you know what it is, yet you don't know what it is. But that's self-contradictory. But some things are better than others, that is, they have more quality. But when you try to say what the quality is, apart from the things that have it, it all goes poof! There's nothing to talk about. But if you can't say what Quality is, how do you know what it is, or how do you know that it even exists? If no one knows what it is, then for all practical purposes it doesn't exist at all. But for all practical purposes it really does exist."

"Quality goes in before the name goes on" translation - the quality machine is located before the badging machine on the assembly line "Quality is job one" translation - this is just another required training that you need to address before you can do anything fun or useful It's always fun to bash the company quality statement. ------------------------- add a signature since I'm here in profile anyway |

"The truth knocks on the door and you say, "Go away, I'm looking for the truth," and so it goes away. Puzzling."

I am a project Quality Mgr and work on the largest petrochemical projects in the world. My favorite Q moment statement ( our meetings always start with a safety moment followed by a quality moment):
"Look around the room at your colleagues. Half the folks in the room today are below average. Where are you on the curve today?" See how long it takes for the first person to speak....................LOL. |

Lots of classic Dilbert material out there. WelderTom, you might want to change that statement to "Half the folks in the room today are below the median." I'm not being mean, it's just my mode of operation.
Sincerely, Joe (who is both very average and very regular!). In fact, I love regular expressions, but that'll go in another thread. |

I could use median, but my part of the business doesn't deal with making repeatable widgets.... i'm in project execution ........... and as such we deal with building one offs.......... HUGE one offs. That said, it might make the pause a little longer if I use "median" or "mean" |
