They may be bankrupt in the US, but Quiksilver continues to offer extraordinarily odd boardshorts. Their $200 (USD) version seems to have an almost-waterproof pocket, so you can put money in it. I'd leave that to Australian and New Zealand bills, which are printed on plastic. The $150 US version has cheaper list prices in Australia and NZ, and I happened to spot a sale price, from SurfStitch (which owns Swell.com in the US and MagicSeaweed), low enough to be interesting. Definitely strange. Lower side panels are slightly see-through (very hard to photograph) and the rather stiff waistband seems to be perforated neoprene-type material with thin fabric on the inside and outside, so light will pass through it.
For about the same price, a Balsa Bill retro or discounted Patagonia Hydro Planing. Then there's Hurley, which seems to have decided that board shorts are wax catchers for the compression undershorts. Edited: 07/13/2016 at 11:57 PM by ww

6pm (clearance section of Zappos, apparently) has O'Neill deals, too. They and Billabong seem to be offering welded construction like Quik and Hurley but without some of the strange excess. $200 for shorts? Now's the northern hemisphere time for deals Down south, Surfstitch, the Australian outfit that owns Swell, can be worth checking. The only real problem is that their quick, free delivery service seems to require signature. |
