He is currently 26th in the rankings. He hast to be in the top 22 after this contest to stay on the tour.

If he does not make it, there are some options. He could choose to retire. He could surf the challenger series and try to re-qualify. He could apply for the injury wild card and be allowed to start over again next year. It's possible he will be the wildcard at the Surf Ranch Pro since it is his company Outer Known that sponsors it. That would be one hell of a going away party.

Didn't make the cut. He surfed well. Not on the best waves. Suspect this is the end unless he gets an injury call up... or a invite to the Surf Ranch.

I watched the heat last night. The other guy was def surfing better although I thought maybe scored a little too high. Slater was gracious in defeat in the post heat interview.

I made a snarky comment about mr. slater, and i apologise.
He has brought great honor and respect to this area, and my 2nd home of santa barbara.
What i saw in that heat was kelly actually.....trying(?!).
Because hes made it look so effortless for so many years.
I first heard about him from channel islands friends: "who's this crazy kid from florida?"
The old guys whined about him whippin on em when he was young
