Anybody else thinking these are another byproduct of beach renourishment? It sure has screwed up the surf breaks. I'm convinced they changed the slope of the beaches and the backwash is somewhat akin to what comes off sea walls. Messing up the surf is okay, but messing up tourism? Uh oh.

Right garcia, I think you're a melbeacher so I'll tell this one. Was out at Spessie this past weekend with one of the local "kids", that means under 40 btw. Tide was low, waves were waist and snappy, tourists were wading right out into the break. We looked at each other and said "somebody's gonna drown for sure". Nobody did as far as I know, at least while we were there.

Cocoa Beach is pitched like Spanny was back in the day, and the resulting rips are the real deal. We have lost several tourists to them in the last year.

my local is Nance park. I surfed last weekend and with the south wind swell we had I walked down and paddled out at Wendy's to drift/surf my way North. There is a little slough at Nance in front of the bathrooms, and the bar to the south extends from the beach out to the middle bar. Sure enough, the soft sand pulled into the water from the last hurricane has formed a series of large washboard sand troughs all along that area with the harder packed sand underneath. with the current running through it, you take one step from waist deep and instantly drop a foot or so. based on the tide, it is ripe for the unsuspecting to go too deep, lose footing and get swept into the slough. I immediately understood why people were getting in trouble as that is THE public beach. Sandbars still suck here, but they are trying to form.

I also find credence with renourishment being a primary cause pf the current sand (and rip) situation
